The European Union’s End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive is setting impressive sustainability targets for the future of automotive production. By 2030, EU vehicle manufacturers must source 25% of their plastics from post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials. What’s even more groundbreaking? The directive requires a quarter of this recycled content to come from circular or closed-loop streams, specifically within the automotive industry. We're excited to share our new sustainability initiative in collaboration with Bel Albatros – a Belgium-based plastic revaluation company that uses homemade machines to recycle plastic and pigment waste into new materials for manufacturing versatile panels. These panels are then transformed into unique interior design items and custom-made furniture. Bel Albatros runs a workshop right in the heart of Brussels, where a small team recycles polyethylene (PE) and off-grade formulations. These recycling materials are transformed using compression into three to five tons of versatile panels per month. These panels are utilized in the production of items sold in the popular design stores of Milan, Paris, Brussels, Porto, Oslo, and various other locations across Europe, as well as New York, United States. Under the scope of this collaboration, Avient will supply Bel Albatros with plastic waste collected from multiple manufacturing sites in Europe. As a thank you to Avient and a symbol of this new collaboration, Bel Albatros presented us with a tailor-made logo from recycled plastic. The logo is now proudly displayed in our EMEA Headquarters in Pommerloch, Luxembourg.
