  • 👷♂️ Bring Your Kid to Work Day Highlights! 👷♀️ This year’s ‘Bring Your Kid to Work Day’ included multiple exciting events! Our engineers hosted a bridge building competition where the employees’ children took on roles as Project Managers, Field Engineers, Surveyors, and Laborers. They followed project designs and plans to create impressive structures! One of Ballard’s senior divers, David Copeland Jr, suited up and submerged in our onsite dive tank. The kids were thrilled to watch as he welded two pieces of metal together underwater. Our HSD & Safety team led shop tours, teaching the children about the saturation chamber, how it’s controlled, and what it’s like to live under pressure for over 20 days. Toward the end of the day, we gathered for a group photo, cooled off with popsicles, tried on dive helmets, and took photos in front of our Hawaiian backdrop. Since it was Aloha Friday, all the kids selected leis to wear. The day was a huge success, teaching the next generation about the important work Ballard does while connecting our teams and their families! 🌺📸 #BringYourKidToWorkDay #STEM #Engineering #Diving #AlohaFriday #FutureEngineers #TeamBuilding #FamilyFun #BallardMarineConstruction

  • Exciting News from Ballard Marine Construction!   We are thrilled to announce the addition of our state-of-the-art long-range remotely operated crawler, equipped with high-tech sensors and cameras, to our advanced inspection fleet. This cutting-edge technology allows us to inspect both dry and submerged structures with unparalleled precision.   From desludging flooded vaults and process piping in nuclear plants to inspecting foul air ducts in municipal wastewater treatment plants (and much, much more), our experienced technical experts are here to consult on how this technology can meet your infrastructure inspection needs.   Case Study:    🔍 Client Challenge: A municipal client required video inspections and erosion control measures for their sewer pipeline running 3,000’ along the bottom of a lake.   🔧 Our Solution: Ballard mobilized to the project site and deployed a crawling remotely operated vehicle into the 22” diameter pipeline. The crawler successfully traveled 3000’ from a singular access point, navigating 35-degree slopes at depths up to 90’ of water, and retracted through the original entry point without issue, while successfully collecting all the needed inspection data. Ballard engineers and underwater subject matter experts continue to assist the client with development of effective erosion mitigation strategies.   Our turnkey underwater and marine inspection, maintenance, and construction services set us apart in the industry.    Contact us today to see how we can address your infrastructure challenges!   #BallardMarineConstruction #UnderwaterInspection #MarineMaintenance #InnovativeTechnology #InfrastructureSolutions

  • From Intern to Full-Time Engineer: Matthew Robertson's Journey at Ballard 👷♂️   Matthew Robertson’s path from intern to full-time engineer at Ballard is a testament to the company’s commitment to fostering talent and maintaining a supportive culture. Drawn to Ballard by the people, culture, and unique projects, Matthew found an environment where he could grow professionally. "The personable, highly motivated, and driven employees, along with Ballard's emphasis on maintaining a family culture, made it an easy choice." The company's focus on pursuing unique marine construction projects that require creative thinking and collaboration further solidified his decision.   During his internship from May 2022 to December 2023, Matthew was immersed in various roles and responsibilities that significantly shaped his career. From his initial experience in the Bradenton, FL office, where he managed QA/QC for over 30,000 linear feet of levee, to his part-time business development role while at Boise State University, Matthew gained invaluable insights and skills. His second internship in Baltimore, MD, provided in-depth knowledge of estimating, allowing him to understand the intricacies of creating estimates, building crews, and writing proposals. "My experience as an intern was diverse and taught me things you just can't learn in the classroom," Matthew reflects.   As an engineer for Ballard’s Robotics & Survey Division, Matthew enjoys the wide range of responsibilities his role entails. He appreciates the opportunity to see a project through all its phases, from business development to execution. For current interns or those considering an internship at Ballard, Matthew advises, "Ask questions and be a good listener. The most successful interns dig deep to listen carefully and ask the right questions needed to solve problems in the office and in the field.”   Matthew is currently living in the United Kingdom until September while attending Fugro’s Applied Hydrographic Survey Program. There he is learning the ins and outs of hydrographic survey. The program is an IHO accredited Category B surveyor course and upon successful completion, he will be moving to Ballard's Greenville, South Carolina office. Matthew's journey highlights the dynamic and growth-oriented environment at Ballard, where interns are given the resources and opportunities to develop into full-time professionals, ready to tackle the challenges of the marine construction industry. • At Ballard Marine Construction, we believe that community engagement is a cornerstone of team member development. Recently, part of our home office and Northwest engineering team, guided by our Director of Engineering, embarked on an inspiring project—building a bridge to inspire children at the Jemtegaard Middle School Career Day and again for Bring Your Kids to Work Day. This initiative not only showcased our team's engineering prowess but also provided a unique opportunity to inspire the next generation of engineers.
