This past week, BCI's Alinne Oliveira (she/her) and Cienna Reed attended the 55th Session of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues hosted by the FAO/World Health Organization Food Standards Program in Chengdu, China. During the session, the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) meet to do their annual review of Codex maximum residue levels (CXLs). These CXLs are internationally agreed food standards covering pesticide residues in or on food and feed and are to be adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. These CXLs are vital as their standards facilitate the export of U.S. products to multiple markets around the world. By attending this session BCI was able to monitor the process for U.S. specialty crop clients. BCI's Matt Lantz and Adam P. Hollowell go back to American Potato Trade Alliance(APTA)'s roots. 🎙️ 🥔 While in Washington, DC for the APTA meeting, Matt Lantz and Adam Hollowell were on the National Potato Council's Eye on Potatoes podcast discussing APTA. On the podcast, they share that with BCI administering APTA, they're able to bring together the entire potato industry value chain—from quick service restaurants and fry and dehy processors to growers. This collaboration helps address international trade barriers affecting potato exports. During the 25 years BCI has managed APTA, it has overcome major trade barriers facing the industry, including the potential closing of the Taiwan and Korean market to U.S. fries. #WorldTradeMonth Fact! 🌎 💰 #DYK Approximately 20 percent of all potatoes grown in the U.S. are exported, in either fresh or processed form, making trade a significant component of the $100.9 billion U.S. potato industry. For 22 years, BCI has worked with the National Potato Council to improve market access and increase trade.
