Hello Buffalo! 🤩 🌊 The first two sections of the Ralph Wilson Park bridge have arrived in Buffalo, NY today on 716 Day after a 12 day journey on the historic Erie Canal. The tug CMT Otter and barge CMT Kelly were escorted to the Ralph Wilson Park by the Seneca Chief replica boat, which christened the Erie Canal 200 years ago. Thank you so much to our dedicated crew—Captain Brad, Engineers Nick and Mark, and deckhands Matt, Devin, and Emory—for your hard work, and to the New York communities that came out to say hi.

Hello Rochester! The tug CMT Otter and barge CMT Kelly are currently tied up at lock 33 Rochester, NY for the night while the barge CMT Hofmann remains at lock 32 Pittsford, NY for the night 7/14/24.   Today was another great day with energetic crowds, we even got to pass by the Colonial Belle and Sam Patch Boat Tours!   Tomorrow at 6 am we will depart lock 33 Rochester, NY and take the barge CMT Kelly half way between lock 33 Rochester, NY and lock 34-35 Lockport, NY to tie up then return to lock 32 Pittsford, NY to get the barge CMT Hofmann and make our way back west 7/15/24.   Notice from our Carver Marine Towing crew: As our journey continues we have now entered the Western End of the Canal. This end of the canal has not been used for commercial traffic in quite some time. We will do our best to give accurate ETA’s but please understand that we have to take this section of canal carefully and slowly to ensure safe passage for the tug, barges, and crew. We will do our best to give everyone as accurate a time as possible. Please continue to follow along for updates!

Here are some highlights from a very long but successful day 6. This morning we made our way through Oneida Lake to lock 23 in Brewerton, NY. From there the CMT Otter did some leapfrogging, bringing the CMT Kelly up to lock 24 in Baldwinsville, NY, and is returning to lock 23 to retie with the CMT Hofmann for the night. Today was our scheduled crew change. Engineer Nick and Deckhand Devin departed the tugboat, and Engineer Mark and Deckhand Emmory joined the crew. They will be with us until we arrive in Buffalo. Due to recent storms, the water level is higher than anticipated, which led to reballasting so we could continue westward under upcoming bridges. At lock 23 in Brewerton, NY we met Don and Kathy, who taught us a new word: gongoozler. A gongoozler is someone who enjoys watching activity on the canals. We also met Otter, a stuffed animal sharing its name with the tugboat CMT Otter. Tomorrow, we plan to depart lock 23 in Brewerton, NY for lock 24 in Baldwinsville, NY at 6 am with the CMT Otter and CMT Hofmann 7/11/24. Stay tuned for some cool posts coming tomorrow including a FAQ's highlight.
