Last week, CECU’s Jason Altmire, DBA joined a group of local dignitaries on a tour of First Institute’s Crystal Lake campus in Illinois. The school welcomed Democratic State Representative Suzanne Ness, Crystal Lake Mayor Haig Haleblian, and a group of local employers for a tour of their facilities and meetings with students and faculty. At this week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, I was honored to work with the U.S. Department of State and World Learning to participate in virtual town hall meetings with audiences in India and South Africa. I was pleased to be joined by former Republican Congressman Rodney Davis and Louisiana State Rep. and convention delegate Julie Emerson for the bipartisan discussion of American elections, global affairs, and increasing polarization. Yesterday, CECU’s Jason Altmire, DBA joined First Institute’s Lisa Raap and Kurt Beier to visit their program in partnership with Cook County Jail in Chicago. They met with the first-ever all-female cohort of welding students, talking to faculty, jail personnel and the inmates enrolled in the welding program. The students are 4 weeks away from completion of their welding certificate and excited about their future in the industry after their release. Jason was inspired by their enthusiasm and impressed by the quality of the program.
