Last week, we kicked off our 5th annual Virtual Iron Chef Competition, where “cheftestants” compete head-to-head in a bracket-style tournament. The first round was sponsored by Mosaic, our employee resource group for BIPOC employees and allies, where the “cheftestants” were challenged with making an assigned recipe from the “Mosaic ERG Comfort Food Recipe Book.” Recipes included cheesy shrimp and grits, Jamaican chicken soup, grilled chicken shawarma and more. Those who participated in the voting process emphasized presentation skills, creativity and execution. Congratulations to those moving onto the next round: Stuart Webster, Sarah Dawn Washkoviak, MLIS, Michelle Bammann, Michelle Ritchie, Jarmila S., Mitch Frank, Natalie Hamlin and Heather Wiegand. It’s great to see all the anticipation and excitement around this annual event from the “cheftestants”, voters and those following along on social our media. #employeeexperience #employeeengagement #workplaceculture

Recently, we hosted a Learning Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio for Account Executives in their first year from US Field, Inside, Career and Canada. The Summit provided a valuable opportunity to connect with peers, gain a deeper understanding for our products and services, shadow successful AEs and gather techniques to enhance their workflows. Christie Decker, Sales Learning & Development Director, shared, "this event provided a unique opportunity for 29 new hires to engage with leaders from across Cengage Group. Together, they discussed the company’s vision and current focus, allowing these new hires to better understand our customers' needs and how our innovative solutions align with them. I am proud of this group for embodying the spirit of continuous learning; together we can achieve greatness!” Following the learning sessions, each participant had the chance to virtually present what they learned to their managers. Their presentations showcased their commitment to growth and dedication to their roles. The group wrapped up the Learning Summit by taking time to connect and unwind at a Cincinnati Reds game, check out the photos below. #employeeexperience #companyculture #sales

Teachers play a vital role in shaping our business, enabling us to provide high-quality learning experiences to millions of students worldwide. In fact, many former teachers have transitioned to become valuable members of our Cengage workforce, leveraging their firsthand classroom experience and interactions with students and the broader educational ecosystem in their current roles. Take a moment to read this post from our SVP and General Manager of Secondary Education, Marty Lange. He recently interviewed Product Marketing Manager, Lauren Kelly, who shared how her previous teaching career continues to influence her day-to-day work at Cengage Group. #education #employeeexperience #teacherappreciation

Today I’d like to share an employee story with you all. Lauren Kelly, was a high school math teacher for 15 years, and now works as a Product Marketing Manager for National Geographic Learning. I wanted to know how her years of teaching experience uniquely positions her to do her job today.   Here’s our conversation:   Q: How has your experience as a K-12 teacher influenced your work at Cengage?   A: As a teacher, I honed my skills in creativity, organization, and communication - all vital components in the world of ed tech marketing. Producing engaging lessons for my students laid the groundwork for creating compelling content and collateral to promote our K–12 math solutions. One of my favorite aspects of teaching was finding creative ways to connect with my students and make math come alive. My ability to foster engagement seamlessly transitions into my role at Cengage. After all, who better to understand the needs of educators than someone who has been in their shoes?   Q: What one transferable skill have been the most helpful in your current role? A: Empathy. My empathy for educators and students enables me to approach marketing strategies with a deep understanding of their needs and challenges, ensuring that our products truly meet their expectations.   Q: What have you learned as a teacher that has had a positive impact on your current career path? A: My time as a teacher taught me the power of resilience and the importance of continuous learning. Every day was a new adventure, filled with laughter, learning, and the occasional mishap. I learned valuable lessons that have shaped my journey in the ed tech industry, such as the importance of adaptability, creativity, and above all, the power of making a positive impact on the lives of others. Transitioning from teaching to the ed tech industry has blessed me with plenty of opportunities to make a difference.   Thank you, Lauren, for sharing! 🍎📒 #FormerTeacher #CareerPaths #EdTech #EmployeeSpotlight

Our Milady team had a fantastic week at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC), the largest gathering of America's future skilled workforce, which offered transformative leadership training, insightful workshops, and seminars. During the event, 56 contestants competed in various contests, such as color, long hair design, women's cut, men's cut, and a technical cut. Additionally, they participated in a written exam and a verbal exam. Lisha Barnes, Milady's Academic Development Manager, played a pivotal role as the Co-Chair of the Technical Committee for the Cosmetology competition. Her expertise and dedication were instrumental in developing the competition standards and selecting highly qualified judges., including Jessica George, Industry Relations Manager. In addition to our team's involvement in the technical aspects of the conference, Milady was honored to contribute prizes for four contests: Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, and Nails. We are grateful to be a part of an event that celebrates the skills and talents of our future workforce. #NLSC24 #education #CTE
