The Coalition for Clean Air works to protect public health, improve air quality, and prevent climate change.
About us
Follow the Coalition for Clean Air (CCA) to join our community of professionals, policy-makers and everyday people dedicated to bringing clean air to California. Established in 1971, CCA is California's only statewide public interest organization advocating exclusively for improving air quality and preventing climate change. From creating the idea for California’s original Smog Check program in 1981 to ensuring the first national ban on the toxic dry cleaning chemical “perc” to helping pass legislation to put 1 million electric vehicles on California’s roads by 2023, CCA leads the way to socially and environmentally responsible air policies nationally and worldwide. Today our small but might staff engages in educational programming, informing policy and coordinating the largest air quality campaign in the State: California Clean Air Day. Why We Exist In California, nine out of ten people breathe air that violates federal clean air standards. This creates far higher rates of asthma, respiratory and cardiovascular disease. Children and the elderly are particularly at risk. Early exposure to air pollution leads to a lifetime of weakened lungs. Thousands of people die of lung cancer every year who have never smoked a day in their life. Climate change is expected to exacerbate the situation, increasing the intensity and number of days we are exposed to this toxic soup of air pollution. The good news is that there is a path forward. Through good policies, the adoption of new technologies and the involvement of people like you, we can restore clean, healthy air to California.

“If we did have air in California as clean as the rest of the country’s, we might lose the authority. I wish we had that problem.” - Bill Magavern, CCA Policy Director Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gsgc_Pn7

Massive win for #EnvironmentalJustice! The referendum to overturn SB 1137 has been withdrawn, so the law to create 3,200 ft setbacks from oil drilling will finally go into effect. Huge thanks to Senator Lena A. "We are not at a place where we’re losing gas tax funding yet.” Not true. ~913k ZEVs sold in California in 2020-23. For each, CA lost ~$200/year. CA drivers pay an avg of ~$300/year in gas taxes. ZEV drivers pay a $100 fee. Net loss for ZEVs sold for these 3 years = $182+ million/year. https://lnkd.in/gpUUxwn5
