Meet Gokce Gizer Clover, the Founder of Beyond42, an organization that supports founders of rapid-growth tech companies in developing resilience and building lasting organizations. Born in Turkey to a successful entrepreneurial family, Gökçe was given the chance to assert her independence from a young age and encouraged to be fearless. Despite not pursuing a career in retail herself, Gökçe’s spirit for stepping into the unknown by immigrating to New York and spearheading numerous ventures and tech competitions harkens back to the growth mindset instilled in her. After noticing the recurring patterns that founders face as they start and scale their businesses, Gökçe founded Beyond42 to give entrepreneurs the pertinent skills and mindset shifts needed to prevent common roadblocks. Today, Gökçe and her company remain committed to helping entrepreneurs find their resilience and sustain success. As a mom and woman, I find it helpful (and often necessary) to rewrite how “business is done”. It makes it possible for me to be there for my business and family while still feeling like I have something left to give to myself. Case in point: Last week, I flew in our Operations Manager to Jackson Hole (where I live). Not only did I fly her in over a long weekend, but I also flew in her 8-year-old daughter. Gasp. Not the typical “work offsite,” you might say — and you’re right, it was so much more, and so much better. Why? ✦ We got to spend invaluable quality time together in person — an absolute necessity as a remote company (but not always accessible to those of us who are parents). ✦ We did this without complicated childcare setups on either end — we didn’t have to choose between being a parent or being deeply committed to our work; we could do/be both. ✦ Our bond deepened by including our families as part of this trip. Over nearly four days together, we had fun, lots of quality time, and the most productive work conversations we’ve had in the nearly two years we’ve been working together. Of course, nothing is perfect; there were plenty of conversations interrupted by “mommy, mommy”. And, let’s be real, the most productive work conversations happened during the pockets of child-free time thanks to very strategically sprinkled-in childcare. But none of this would have been possible without physically getting Katelyn Hilburn to Jackson Hole in the first place — and I can wholeheartedly say that integrating our children into the weekend felt like we were winning at life, rewriting rules, and having the best time while we did so.
