Veteran Suicide Statistics Are Horrifying — What Is the VA Doing to Help? Research shows that an average of 17.5 veterans die by suicide each day. At ViVE 2024, Shereef Elnahal, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ under secretary for health, declared that even one veteran dying by suicide is too many — and promised that the VA is pursuing partnerships aimed at addressing this harrowing problem. https://lnkd.in/gvQSMKUv Empower Mental Health advocates for comprehensive mental health support for veterans, recognizing the enduring impact of military service on well-being. As we mark two decades since the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the transition from military life poses unique challenges, hindering access to crucial mental health care. The recent report on veteran suicides underscores the urgency, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach. Partnering with Empower Mental Health allows companies to play a pivotal role in developing proactive mental health strategies. Together, we empower veterans in navigating post-military life, prioritizing their well-being and contributing to ending veteran suicides. #EmpowerMentalHealth #VeteransSupport #MentalHealthAwareness #CollaborativeAction #veteran #mentalhealth #militarylife #support #empower

Do workers' compensation benefits cover mental health-related claims? Mental illness continues to be an issue plaguing the country’s adult population, affecting the daily lives of nearly one in five (19.9%) Americans, the latest figures from Mental Health America (MHA) reveal. The number, according to the non-profit’s 2022 Prevalence Data, is equivalent to almost 50 million US adults, up from about 47 million in the previous year. https://lnkd.in/gB9-7QC3 #empower #mentalhealth Empower Mental Health

VA to ease benefits rules for vets exposed to Agent Orange in the US Thousands of veterans exposed to Agent Orange while serving in the United States will for the first time be eligible for fast-track disability benefits under plans unveiled by the Department of Veterans Affairs on Friday. The move represents another major expansion of toxic exposure benefits for veterans, this time for individuals suffering from illnesses dating back to the Vietnam War era. The changes follow mandates included in the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act — better known as the PACT Act — passed by Congress in August 2022. https://lnkd.in/grVe27P4 #EmpowerMentalHealth #PACTAct #MentalHealthMatters #SupportOurTroops Empower Mental Health

Yale researchers highlight prevalence of anxiety in U.S. military veterans In a Yale-led study published earlier this month, researchers investigated the impact of Generalized Anxiety Disorder — a mental health condition characterized by persistent and excessive anxiety that can disrupt daily life and functioning — on military veterans. The study was led by Grace Macdonald-Gagnon, a former psychiatry research assistant at Yale and current clinical psychology doctoral student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, alongside Robert H. Pietrzak, a professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine and a researcher at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for PTSD. They found that 7.9 percent of veterans screened positive for probable Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD, while only 2.9 percent of the general United States adult population experiences GAD. The researchers also found that almost one in four veterans experience mild anxiety disorders. https://lnkd.in/gwqpprcy Empower Mental Health advocates for comprehensive mental health support for veterans, recognizing the enduring impact of military service on well-being.
