To achieve a #netzero grid by 2035, the U.S. needs to expand its transmission #infrastructure. Developers can expedite transmission projects by proactively engaging upfront with local #communities in a power line’s path, according to a study by Harvard University and MIT researchers. When developers fail to listen to local needs, treating engagement as a “box to be checked”, delays often occur. Major #transmission projects can take up to 15 years for approval to begin #construction, leading to higher costs and deterring development. Securing local buy-in through intentional community engagement is key to overcoming #challenges in transmission development for a #sustainable future.
