📣Appropriations Update 📣 We want to thank everyone who took action this week to protect funding for @AmeriCorps & @AmeriCorpsNCCC, and the vital resources they provide community-based organizations all over the country. This week, the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that would jeopardize more than 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, risking the loss of vital resources for community-based organizations all over the country in 2026. Congress still has opportunities to protect and strengthen this funding, and we’ll need advocates like you to voice your support in the months ahead. ➡️️ TAKE ACTION: Urge Congress to reconsider this decision and protect funding for AmeriCorps by filling out this form, bit.ly/CCFY25, or share this and tag your representative, asking them to #Stand4Service [Image description: 1 graphic a black background saying, ‘Congress just jeaprodized 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, including vital roles at FoodCorps' and all capitalized text saying, ‘take action.’]

School food is a matter of justice. Food justice is key in building a world free from oppression. And schools—among the earliest places where kids learn about food, practice building community, and often get most of their daily nutrition—are critical in shaping this world for our kids. Read FoodCorps' blog "Why School Food is a Justice Issue" to learn why the movement for food justice must include school food. ➡️ https://bit.ly/3Lb12GC Share this post if you believe school food is a justice issue! 🥕

📣 FoodCorps positions are at risk. We need your help TODAY. The House has just proposed a bill that would eliminate all funding for @AmeriCorps & @AmeriCorpsNCCC. More than 71,000 AmeriCorps positions could be eliminated, including ours—and legislators could make this decision as soon as Wednesday. National service is a vital resource for community-based organizations all over the country. If passed, these cuts will be devastating. ➡️️ TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to invest in AmeriCorps, not cut it. Fill out this form to #Stand4Service right now: https://bit.ly/CCFY25

Today is the last day of service for our 2023-2024 FoodCorps AmeriCorps members! 🥹 In the words of Cassidy Hobler, FoodCorps Arkansas program coordinator: “We are so proud of you! You are community builders! You are courageous teachers, fun-makers, and friends. You are passionate about making children feel seen, loved, nourished, and included. You are confident and adaptable people who stretch, leap, and try new things… Thank you AGAIN for your commitment to the schools we serve, for being open to growing and learning, for stocking pantries over and over, for being resourceful and creative on the fly, for challenging yourself and for challenging what’s “possible”, for dreaming big and taking people with you, for gardening your hearts out, for being a trusting loving adult that kids look up to. Thank you for supporting each other and lifting each other up! You are amazing people and I have so much excitement and joy for each of you as you take the next step in your journey.” Congratulations on a fantastic year of service, everyone! 🥕 If you're a #FoodCorps alumni, shout out your service year and state in the comments below 👇

Did you see FoodCorps co-founder Curt Ellis and his 2007 documentary "King Corn" on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver? 🌽 Curt started his food justice journey by learning all about this common crop and co-created the 2007 documentary “King Corn,” which looks at the impact of America’s corn farming industry on our food system. “King Corn” won a Peabody Award for showing how the #FarmBill shapes the way we eat. Congress is updating this legislation now, so it's a powerful time to speak up for a Farm Bill that prioritizes justice, health, and sustainability. Watch the full segment ➡ https://lnkd.in/e5qrUFqa

Changing The Meat We Eat®. How do we do it? By investing in the health of our communities and the next generation of eaters. To that end, we are proud to share that Applegate is contributing $50,000 to FoodCorps to fund food education and access in New Jersey schools. - Why New Jersey? For one, it’s our home state! But there’s another reason. New Jersey may be rightly called the Garden State, but there remain areas where children struggle to access wholesome food. FoodCorps partners in cities including Camden, where one-third of the population lives below the poverty line, compared to a nationwide average of 12.6%. - Why FoodCorps? FoodCorps has a proven track record – and an ambitious goal that we support: for all kids to have access to food education and nourishing food in school by 2030. As a mission-based company, we believe that we are part of something bigger. By educating young people on the importance of nourishing food, we are investing in the well being of our communities and in the next generation.
