  • ☣Think setting boundaries with a toxic boss is tough? The fallout when you don't can be even worse. 📢This goes out to everyone struggling to navigate these situations and feeling isolated in the process. It's way more common than you think. Talk to someone. Get the support you need. Your boundaries are your right. If you can't influence change, make a plan. There's plenty of other payrolls that will print a paycheck. #WorkplaceWellness #BoundarySetting #ToxicBosses #EmployeeExperience

  • 🦄 Happy National Unicorn Day! Do you know who your 'unicorns' are?

🦄 It's National Unicorn Day, and it's time to talk about the ones you have living in your ‘corporate kingdom.’ ‘Unicorns’ are those team members who possess rare talents, show unwavering dedication & loyalty, and consistently have a significant impact on your organization's success. They always take on (or are assigned) the toughest challenges and deliver outstanding results – all while upholding strong cultural and behavioral standards. You know who they are. And if you don’t, today’s a perfect day to give it some thought. But here's the question: Do you really value these exceptional individuals, or are you simply piling more work on their plates, raising the bar higher and setting a different level of expectations just because you can? 🤔 It's easy to take these top performers for granted, while assuming they'll always be there to save the day. However, if you don't properly recognize, compensate, and appreciate them, you risk losing them to organizations that will. Maybe it's time to ask yourself: 💰 Are they being fairly compensated for their consistently outstanding contributions? – I’m not just talking comparatively to outdated compensations systems that are often used as an ‘excuse.’ 🤝 Do you regularly express your appreciation and recognition for these efforts? Do you know what genuinely motivates these individuals and are you leveraging it? – For those that consistently go above and beyond, they deserve appreciation that also goes above and beyond traditional recognition programming and rewards. 🚫🥕 Are you providing them with opportunities for growth and development? – This includes personalized development plans with clear milestones and deliverables from not only the individual’s side, but the company’s as well. In other words, don’t dangle the proverbial carrot of promotions or bonuses. If they deliver. You, the company delivers. So take a moment today to remember, your 'unicorns' are the key to your organization's success. Just because they can, doesn’t mean you should! Don't let them slip away to new pastures due to overwork and underappreciation. #Appreciation #Recognition #Unicorns #Development #FairCompensation

  • Would you invest your money into something that doesn't provide a return? Why should your mental & physical well-being be any different?

It's completely reasonable to match your investment levels of commitment, time & energy into a company based on the value they reciprocate through proven & consistent action. 🧠💪 Prioritizing mental & physical well-being in the workplace is about knowing your worth, conducting a brutally honest assessment of your environment & having the confidence to place and enforce boundaries. "Never trade your mental or physical well-being for loyalty to a company that would easily sacrifice your position for profit." #WorkplaceWellBeing #Burnout #EmployeeExperience #WorkLifeHarmony #Boundaries

  • Some of the great work we're doing with the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo!

In-classroom based PowerPoint orientations aren't as impactful... especially when your business is high touch or mission driven. So, what's the alternative? Conventional orientations can be a missed opportunity for foundational effectiveness and training efficiency, especially when the core of your business relies heavily on your team members creating experiences & connections with your guests. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to join the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo in delivering their new “Foundations” orientation program for almost 200 new team members. We’ve been working together on a new approach that supplements more traditional classroom sessions with hands-on and in-filed rotations throughout the zoo. This approach not only brought the mission to life through numerous different experiences but helped better connect the zoo’s overall culture & expectations to each of their individual roles. Some of the benefits to this approach include: 😃 Engagement: In-field training helps new employees know how to better apply their knowledge to real-world situations, increasing their engagement from day one. ✋ Contextual Understanding: Location based, and hands-on learning from the start helps new hires better understand job expectations and how their role contributes to the company's overall mission and objectives. 🧠 Memorable Experiences: Interactive training sessions create lasting impressions that are more effective than traditional presentations or handouts. It also allows the new team members to see wanted behaviors modeled and what it feels like to be in the guests’ shoes. 😁 Team Integration: Starting a new job can be intimidating. By having new team members actively participate in situations together, not only are they connecting with the organization’s mission, but they are also connecting with one another, which helps overcome many of those “new job” related fears & barriers. Even though it was still a little chilly in Fort Wayne, feedback from participants (new and returning) has been very positive, proving that learning by doing is not just effective, it's inspiring and worthwhile. Is your orientation process maximizing its objectives & potential? Let's connect and discuss how a blended approach might help. And if you’re in the Fort Wayne area, you must visit the Zoo. It’s a great organization with an even better team of people. Thank you Rick Schuiteman and team for the continued opportunity. #EmployeeExperience #Orientation #Engagement

  • Happy Friday! What can we learn from this week to make next week even better? We hope everyone has a great weekend!

What are your main takeaways from the week? Have you thought about it? It's Friday, and I told myself I would be better at reflecting on each week with a goal of making my next week a better one - both personally and professionally. Here are some of the areas where my takeaways from this week live, so I thought I'd share (along with some thought provoking questions of course 😉). 🔄Adaptability & Resilience: How did you handle changes or stress this week? What lessons are you walking away with? 💬Communication: How did your conversations go this week? Any wins, challenges, or "wish I hadn't said that" moments? 🤝Collaboration and Teamwork: Think about collaborative experiences with your team(s), boss, peers, clients or even family and friends. What worked well and what could have gone better? ⚖️Work-Life Harmony: How well did you juggle the personal and professional? What specifically led to your answer? 🙏Giving Yourself Grace: Where did you show understanding and kindness to yourself when you needed it? Where should you have gone easier on yourself and shown a little more self-compassion this week? I hope everyone had a great week this week (along with some good reflective takeaways), and let's look forward to a even better next week! #LeadershipReflection #MindfulLeadership #GrowthMindset #Development #Improvement #LearnandGrow

  • "Leaders, are you speaking the right language?" Some simple Sunday thoughts: 🤝 "Us" and "We" - Allows you to establish and tell your team's collective story while inspiring a shared vision and inclusivity. 👏 "You" - Allows you to recognize individual contribution or impact with greater specificity that motivates. 🙋♂️ "I" - Allows you to take ownership for your mistakes and shows others that mistakes and failures happen. Accountability builds respect. Respect builds trust and loyalty. It's not just the words we choose, but the aligned behaviors we demonstrate, that together define our leadership and help build a culture of trust, engagement, and shared success. #LeadershipDevelopment #Communication #LeadershipMatters #WordsMatter #Vision #Inclusivity

"New Year. New Me." Did you wake up on January 1st a completely different person? And if so, how do I get on that list? 😜 Every year, no sooner do the decorations start coming down, the talk of "New Year, New Me" in conversations, social media posts, and even our own thoughts begin. But let's get real, setting overly ambitious resolutions and goals may sound good, but it often leads us down a path of unrealistic expectations. As we move through the first part of the year and our goals start to feel unattainable, our motivation plummets, which can result in a downward spiral of negative self-talk, doubt, burnout or even depression. And what’s the ‘why’ behind this resolution-based mindset in the first place? Are we setting these goals for ourselves, or because we feel pressured by professional or societal expectations? Research shows that lasting and meaningful change is intrinsically motivated - taking time and gradual steps, not sudden, drastic overhauls. So this year, I'm embracing the "New Year. Realistically Resilient Me" approach instead. It's about setting smaller, more frequent goals that are challenging yet achievable, while being kinder to myself and giving myself grace throughout when things go a little off track. Let's shift the focus to gradual, more realistic improvement driven by internal motivation. And who knows, by December 31st, we might just find ourselves saying, "New Year. More Consistent & Confident Me." Here's to a year of meaningful, achievable changes! 🥂 #NewYear #RealisticGoals #Resilience #Consistency #Kindness #Confidence
