The request for backpacks and supplies has risen to 2,500 this year. Here's how you can help. 🧡 Make a personal donation. 🧡 Donate through a company foundation, Community Affairs, or Corporate Social Responsibility Department. 🧡 Run an employee fundraiser - many companies will match! 🧡 Organize a team-building project to fundraise and assemble a minimum of 100 backpacks. 🧡 Adopt a Good Shepherd Services program and fulfill their backpack and supply needs. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing that the remaining enslaved people were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This marked a crucial step forward in the pursuit of #racialjustice in the United States. However, in the years that followed, the nation grappled with post-Civil War backlash, Jim Crow laws, and ongoing civil rights challenges. Pride Month is off to an incredible start at #goodshepherdservices! This year marks our 12th year of celebrating #pride, and we kicked it off with Spirit Week. From Matchy Monday, where our team showed up in coordinated outfits from head to toe, to the Brooklyn Pride, Inc. run on Saturday, it was a week full of #joy and #fun. Yesterday's Youth Summit showcased the incredible power of youth #leadership as program participants shared their stories through #spokenword, #art, #photography, and traditional #storytelling. The theme "Create Your Map of Connections" came to life in a big way! Youth opened up to the attendees and made others feel safe doing the same. In our trauma-informed space, we had #SocialWorkers and staff available to offer emotional support. We're so proud of the young leaders who made this event a resounding success, and we're inspired by the connections and vulnerability they shared with everyone. #YouthLeadership #YouthSummit #YouthVoices #traumainformed #inspiration #communitybuilding

In 2022, CV partnered with SCAN-Harbor and Good Shepherd Services to honor the Freedom Riders. Our young people traveled to Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama to reenact the 1961 freedom rides. Inspired by their journey, they asked, "What's next?" and formed the Youth Leadership Council to continue their learning and impact their community. On May 11, 2024, the Council held Community Day, a youth summit promoting collectivism, positivity, and advocacy.
