Excited to have officially started my new role as Resident Country Economist supporting the Ministry of Finance Republic of Palau 🇵🇼 This is part of a wider Asian Development Bank (ADB) Technical Assistance project for Building Economic Management Capacity in the North Pacific and I'm really looking forward to working closely with the other islands. As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), vulnerable to exogenous shocks and climate change, demographic pressures and an increasing debt stock, the focus on government, sound economic management and ensuring public service delivery are acutely felt here. However, after only a few weeks on the ground I am impressed by the enthusiasm of my government counterparts and ambitious suite of economic reforms Palau have in the pipeline. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and get stuck into strengthening economic policy formulation to support bringing these policy reforms to fruition and serve Palau's people💪 Special thanks to Graduate School USA for engaging me on this! Fun fact: this will be my 3rd Ministry of Finance (and 3rd continent) in the last 10 years!
