Aspiring Anesthesiologist Assistant | Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at Arlington | Certified Clinical Medical Assistant at JPS Health Network | Contract at Mobile Health

On this day two months ago, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at Arlington. Throughout my three years of undergraduate study, I have grown and learned immensely. I am deeply grateful to God, my family, my preceptors, my professors, my scholarship sponsors, and my peers for their support in making this day possible. It was a tremendous honor to wear my ao dai, the traditional Vietnamese formal attire, as I crossed the stage. Here are some of the most significant milestones I have achieved: ● Summa Cum Laude ● Dean’s List Honor: 5 out of 6 semesters ● Medical Math: 5th place at the Texas competition HOSA-Future Health ProfessionalsNMDP Coordinator and HOSA Service Project Chair ● Vice President of Finance for the Science Constituency Council ● 200+ Hours of Volunteering Recognition from Texas Health Resources ● 2000+ Direct Patient Care Hours as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant at JPS Health Network ● Certified Bilingual Technician Recognition from JPS Health Network ● First Generation Recognition from The University of Texas at Arlington ● Lotus Laureate Excellence Recognition from The University of Texas at Arlington ● Lavender Excellence Recognition from The University of Texas at Arlington ● Maverick Advantage Distinction from The University of Texas at Arlington ● Maverick Academic Scholarship from The University of Texas at Arlington ● Wiliam L. & Martha Hughes Scholarship from The University of Texas at Arlington ● Alex Daniel Goolsby Scholarship from The University of Texas at Arlington ● High Academic & Outstanding Community Engagement Scholarship from Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce ● Bell STEM Scholarship from Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce ● Freshman Undergraduate Award from BAFTX My next step is to pursue a Master of Science in Anesthesia, with the ultimate goal of becoming a certified anesthesiologist assistant. Working in the operating room in an anesthesia care team model (ACT), caring for patients during their most vulnerable moments, and having patients on my anesthesia plan to ensure they experience little to no pain is my true calling. I vividly remember coming to America 8 years ago with the goal of creating a better life for my family and myself. From a low-income background family where healthcare is severely underserved, with non-English speaking parents, and as a first-generation student, I have never imagined reaching this point in my American journey. I am incredibly humbled to stand where I am today, and I truly believe in the American dream.

In recent months, I have developed a strong interest in addressing the increasing concerns related to dementia, as this passion stems from my first-hand experience working with individuals and families affected by dementia. This has led me to delve into potential preventive measures to mitigate its effects. As a result, I had the privilege of leading and conducting a research study catered to this interest. My research explored the emotional associations of episodic memory encoding and retrieval processes with how emotionally salient events influence the formation of engrams, particularly in individuals with dementia. In May 2024, I had the privilege of showcasing this research at the Postsecondary Research Poster event during HOSA Canada's Spring Leadership Conference in Toronto. I was thrilled to receive 2nd place for this research and to have the chance to represent Canada at the International Leadership Conference the following month. That said, I'm pleased to announce that I received 1st place in the Postsecondary Research Poster event at the recent HOSA International Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas. Bringing home gold for Canada and competing alongside amazing research projects was an enriching experience, allowing me to learn and network with other aspiring researchers from universities and schools across the world. I want to express my gratitude to Dr.Jennifer O'Neil and the team at Reachable Rehab lab for their invaluable guidance in preparing my presentation. I also want to thank the HOSA uOttawa team for their unwavering support and HOSA-Future Health Professionals for providing me with this incredible opportunity. I gained a wealth of knowledge from this experience and am truly thankful to be among such inspiring and passionate healthcare professionals.

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” - A. A. Milne A simple quote that captures hows I feel stepping away from my role at New Jersey HOSA after being a part of the organization for 14 transformative years. I have experienced a role at nearly every level throughout my time and I have made countless friends along the way that I will cherish forever. Being inducted into the HOSA-Future Health Professionals Hall of Fame at the 2024 International Leadership Conference (ILC) by 2 of my former NJ HOSA State Officers was the perfect full circle moment. However, this farewell is a "See you soon," as I will never allow myself to become a stranger to NJ HOSA and we'll keep meeting at least once a year at ILC. Until then, thank you NJ HOSA for helping me find my voice, my people, and my purpose.

BSN Student + Counselor Education Minor | SSC Peer Consultant | University of South Carolina 2026

Two weeks ago, I had the honor and privilege of attending the HOSA-Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas! Even as I enter my 5th year as a HOSA member, I continue to be amazed by the power of community that this organization cultivates, and I am truly grateful for all the connections made and lessons learned throughout the week of the conference. As a representative of the University of South Carolina HOSA chapter, I am pleased to say that I did not return home empty-handed. I am grateful to have earned a scholarship from Pocket Nurse that will be put to great use as I continue my studies at the USC College of Nursing! Additionally, I placed 8th in Prepared Speaking (Postsecondary/Collegiate), representing my chapter and SC HOSA on the international stage! I will forever be grateful for the opportunities this organization had provided my peers and I as we prepare to enter the workforce as healthcare leaders. As the incoming USC HOSA Chapter President, I will #daretocreate an exciting year that is that is #poweredbypeople! 🩺 #hosa #hosailc

Hawaii Pacific Health Intern | Hollister Brand Rep | Freshman at Boston University, CAS 28’

The photos are probably all out of order, and this is also an incredibly late post, but I’d like to remember my HOSA (HOSA-Future Health Professionals) International Leadership Conference trip from June 23rd-June 30th 2024! I competed in the event Nutrition, and although I did not place I am lucky I was able to represent my state on the international level! I learned so much about nutrition through studying for this event, that will remain invaluable to me for the rest of my life. When I was not competing, I attended HOSA Expo, where my friends and I got to meet people from all over the world! We traded our state/country pins (which was honestly so cool!!). HOSA Expo also gave us the chance to discover what type of person we were through HFC’s quiz, sign up for the nmdp registry, and do so much other activities/information booths. Outside of ILC, my group and I were able to visit Houston’s science museum and space center! It was incredible participating in bio labs and seeing the stories of space travel. Another important place of visit (as someone who lives in Hawaii): Trader Joe’s! All in all, this was an amazing trip filled with experiences and memories that I will never forget! I owe it to my parents who allowed me to go, and my advisors who planned/advised our stay. I am also so thankful that I got to go to Houston, Texas with some of the best people I know. My school’s chapter made this trip for me, filling it with support for all of our events and laughter in tough moments. I could not be more grateful for them. I also made this post to thank HOSA for its impact on my life these past four years! I can’t imagine my high school years without HOSA, as the leadership opportunities it brought me has shaped me into the person I am today. I was definitely shy at the beginning of high school, but being able to grow as a State Intern then Officer, then eventually as my Chapter’s President gave me so much more confidence. This ILC is probably my last (at least for now!), and I am so excited for what the future has in store. I am proud to say I am now officially a HOSA alumni. :)
