We deliver groceries on a mission to eliminate food waste and build a better food system for everyone.

About us

Imperfect Foods was founded in 2015 with a mission to reduce food waste and build a better food system for everyone. We offer imperfect (yet delicious) produce, affordable pantry items, and quality meat and dairy. We deliver them conveniently to our customers’ doorsteps and pride ourselves on offering up to a 30% discount compared to grocery store prices. Our customers can get the healthy, seasonal produce they want alongside the grocery staples they rely on, without having to compromise their budget or values. We’re proving that doing the right thing for the planet doesn’t have to cost more, and that shopping for quality ingredients can support the people and resources that it takes to grow our favorite foods. We're headquartered in San Francisco with operations all over the country. Check our website to see if there is an Imperfect near you! We're looking for folks who are positive, motivated, and ready to change the world. If that sounds like you, drop us a line!

Project Drawdown highlights the crucial role of individual and household actions in combating climate change, contributing to 25-30% of necessary global emission reductions. We’ve got a lot to celebrate as we wrap up October thanks to two big milestones: our 5th anniversary and one year since our acquisition of Imperfect Foods (not to mention their own 8th anniversary!). In the year since welcoming Imperfect to the Misfits Market family, we’ve made huge strides in merging our two companies into one powerful force, all thanks to our incredible team. We’ve delivered on our promise of growing our impact well beyond what we would’ve been able to accomplish alone—and then some. Not only have we rallied behind our shared vision to reimagine the food system, we’ve also rolled out a cohesive product assortment and experience, with a unified front-end and back-end that makes shopping for quality groceries easier and more affordable for all of our customers. On the Misfits side, we introduced a free packaging return program to customers in our first-party delivery areas, and Imperfect customers got access to our wine and Misfits Perks programs. Together, we’re now saving a whopping 500,000 pounds of food from lesser outcomes every single week. We’re so proud of everyone who’s worked together in record time to get us here, and can’t wait for all the food-waste-fighting ahead.

Not all recyclable materials get the same second chance! Since plastic and paper degrade in quality every time you recycle them, you're effectively "downcycling" them—delaying when they ultimately go to waste. Glass and aluminum, on the other hand, can be recycled infinitely, since recycling doesn't degrade their quality. So when you're debating what materials to bring into your life, remember that your decision affects the life of the materials, too! ♻️ So take steps to reduce your use of single-use plastic, and make sure your aluminum and glass always make it into the recycling bin. #plasticfreejuly

What do those plastic recycling numbers mean? They indicate what type of plastic it's made out of, not if it's recyclable in your area. While #1 and #2 plastics are relatively easy to recycle, many of the other types of plastic we use are difficult (if not impossible) to recycle through our curbside systems, so they often end up in landfills instead. In addition, not every municipality can handle every type, so pay attention to what's recyclable in your area. Save this post for reference and tag a friend that would benefit from this info. When in doubt remember: refuse, reduce, reuse, and THEN recycle! ♻️🌎 #plasticfreejuly
