Joy. Power. Possibility.

About us

Since 1996, the Lower Eastside Girls Club has supported young women and gender-expansive youth of color throughout New York City in leveraging their inner power to shape a better future for themselves, their community, and the world. Through free, year-round, innovative programming we connect young people with their passions, celebrate their curiosity, and channel their creative energy. In 2022, we expanded our mission and service population with the Center for Wellbeing and Happiness, which provides free, full-spectrum wellness services for all generations and genders on the Lower East Side. Together, we are building a just and equitable future filled with “Joy. Power. Possibility” and where we “Transform Self-Care into Community Care.”

  • Our very own Kiera Del Vecchio spoke at the recent "Investing in the Vision" event at The New York Women's Foundation. This event championed the voices of young women of color, whose journeys have often been sidelined in philanthropic conversations. Kiera, who is the Program Manager at the Center For Wellbeing & Happiness, was honored for her resilient spirit as a change-maker and community advocate. In her inspiring speech, she noted that “Participatory grantmaking can help us build a more liberatory and inclusive world, one which is centered on meeting all people's basic needs, safety, and security for all, belonging for all, and valuing all contributions to society. A commitment to supporting transformative long-term work is not charity, it is solidarity centered on a radical vision of collective care.”

  • Girls Club is thrilled to welcome Lanthy Truong as its first Chief Executive Officer. Lanthy brings a wealth of expertise to the role, and we are confident that her leadership will take our organization to new heights. Her arrival comes at a pivotal moment in the Girls Club’s evolution. MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving recently announced that we are an awardee of the Yield Giving Open Call. With this transformational award and Lanthy’s expertise in building infrastructure and operational capacity, The Lower Eastside Girls Club is now best positioned to support and execute its mission of serving 1000+ youth and community members annually. Lanthy is a strategist, capacity-builder, and jane-of-all-trades with deep sector knowledge cultivated through her roles in programs, strategic partnerships, IT, operations, human resources, and finance. In recent years, she has successfully helped organizations of all sizes, from <$1M to $500M budgets, develop infrastructure to navigate the complex operational challenges nonprofits face today. Most recently, Lanthy served as VP of Finance and Administration at Matriculate. She holds a BA from the University of Virginia and an MPA from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, where she specialized in nonprofit management and finance. The Lower Eastside Girls Club Board Vice Chair, Kimberly Aguilera, emphasizes, "Lanthy Truong brings an invaluable combination of experience, dedication, and heart to our organization. With twenty years of non-profit experience and a profound commitment to education, Lanthy's leadership is poised to elevate our mission to new heights. What truly sets Lanthy apart is her people-centered approach, coupled with her financial acumen, strategic foresight, and operational expertise. It's not just about the numbers for Lanthy; it's about empowering individuals and communities to thrive. We are thrilled to welcome Lanthy as a partner to our incredible staff at the Girls Club. With her at the helm, we are confident that we will continue our legacy of supporting young women, girls, and gender-expansive youth and expand our impact, helping them and their families lead fully realized, inventive, and joyful lives. Lanthy embodies the spirit of our organization, and we are excited for the journey ahead under her leadership."  Jenny Dembrow, who will continue to serve as the Executive Director, shares, “I am eager to partner with Lanthy to bolster the organization and build upon our legacy of creating a just and equitable world filled with Joy, Power, and Possibility." The Lower Eastside Girls Club Board Co-Chair, Gael Towey, adds, “Lanthy Truong has twenty years of non-profit experience and a deep commitment to education, but it is her big heart, people-centered approach coupled with her financial, strategic, and operations expertise that got our board truly excited to work with Lanthy.”

We ❤️ NYC is an understatement! The Aerie Real Foundation, Women@AEO Network and associates from our SoHo store + NYDO have been hard at work making positive connections with nonprofit partners across the five boroughs. From setting up a pop-up shop at our Gateway store in SoHo featuring products made by craft-savvy students from Foster Pride to hosting an enthusiastic group of girls from The Lower Eastside Girls Club of New York for a behind-the-scenes look at working at our NYDO, we made sure February was filled with good vibes and a strong sense of NYC community.
