Jatin Salhotra, Managing Director in our Strategy & Asset Allocation group, recently participated in a panel at the Neuberger Berman 2024 Insurance Investment Leaders’ Roundtable in NYC, alongside Jack Bishop, Stephen Smith, and Clark Jeffries. The topic? The convergence of managers and insurers, asset allocation trends, and regulatory shifts that have been hot topics across the insurance industry. Jatin’s key takeaway? Various factors – including ownership structure, regulatory jurisdiction, underlying liabilities, and portfolio construction techniques – interact in complex ways leading to diverse outcomes across Property & Casualty (P&C), Reinsurance, and Life & Annuity. Eric Charron (Eric C.), Head of Trading – Global Fixed Income, recently spoke on a panel at Fixed Income Leaders Connect alongside Robert Fink, Coalition Greenwich (a division of CRISIL), and Tim Gigliotti, Nuveen, a TIAA company. The group discussed improving data aggregation and infrastructure to better support traders and improve performance. Eric’s perspective on the event? “The conference really showcased the challenges facing the evolution of the buy side trading desk and the importance of pre and post trade information. Today, private credit is booming but Liberty Mutual Investments has had a private credit strategy since 2011. In fact, we invest in the full spectrum of private credit across five asset teams. We recently joined others in the private credit space at SuperReturn Private Credit US. There, Matt Stoeckle, Director – Capital Solutions, spoke on a panel discussing how to find the best relative value from an allocators’ point of view. His three key takeaways? 1. Rise in rates, macro uncertainty and geopolitical risks are providing better relative value in private credit than other risk asset classes. 2. Strong partnerships provide access to a wide funnel of opportunities across corporate, asset-backed and structured credit. 3. It’s paramount to understand the risks, why a borrower is willing to pay an outsized return, and the downside protections structured into transactions.
