Lutheran SeniorLife is proud to announce that Jessica McGuinness, Physical Therapist and Rehabilitation Site Supervisor at St. John Specialty Care Center and Passavant Community, has been honored with the Clinical Instructor of the Year award from Gannon University. McGuinness, a 2009 Gannon graduate, has mentored 17 students over her 12-year career at Lutheran SeniorLife. "I love having students," McGuinness says. "This award is student-nominated, which really means a lot to me. It’s an honor." To celebrate, McGuinness received a basket of Gannon swag, a certificate, and a cake to share with friends. Dr. Connie Lewis, Assistant Teaching Professor and Co-Director of Clinical Education at Gannon University, presented the award. "Jessica takes our Gannon students and many others, and they always rave about how much they learn from her. They end up loving this experience," said Lewis to McGuinness. "We want to thank you for all that you do, not only for our program but for the profession. Our program could not exist without great clinical instructors. You are definitely one of the best." Congratulations, Jessica! We are grateful for your contributions and proud to have you as part of our Lutheran SeniorLife family!

PrimeTime Senior Center Introduces Virtual Reality Experiences for Seniors PrimeTime Senior Center, managed by the Lutheran Service Society, is bringing the wonders of virtual reality (VR) to its participants. Recently, Connie, a participant at the center, tried out the VR headset and was transported back to the house where she had raised her children for 25 years, located on Mexican War Streets of Pittsburgh's Northside. This exciting new program was made possible through a technology grant from the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging. With this grant, PrimeTime has partnered with Mynd Immersive to acquire two VR headsets, offering seniors a unique opportunity to travel, have adventures, learn, meditate, and more, all from the comfort of the center. "We are just beginning this program and are excited about harnessing the full potential of VR. We've conducted a few experiences with participants while familiarizing ourselves with the devices,” said Courtney Lotz, Program Manager for Lutheran Service Society. “The interest and feedback we've received so far have been fantastic!" As the program is in its early stages, the staff and participants are eagerly learning about the capabilities of the VR devices. PrimeTime Senior Center looks forward to expanding this program and fully utilizing VR's capabilities to enhance the lives of its seniors. By offering these innovative experiences, the center continues to promote an engaging and enriching environment for its community.

VNA Employees Give Their Time Miracle League Baseball Game Recently, a group of dedicated employees from the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) volunteered their time and energy to assist at a Miracle League of Southwestern PA game in Cranberry Township. This special event featured a game between adults with special needs who came together to enjoy America's favorite pastime. Thanks to the efforts of Debbie Kaylor, Danielle Hoffman, Kylie Hoffman, Erica Russek, Gayle Hindman, and Suzanne Groove, the volunteers provided essential assistance by guiding players, running base to base for those who needed help, and offering support in various ways. Most importantly, they cheered on the players, fostering an environment of encouragement and excitement. "As a volunteer, it was an honor to be able to assist these wonderful people play a fun game and see just how enthusiastic they are," explained Debbie Kaylor, VNA Director of Marketing and Communications. Featuring about 25 players on each team, the game was designed to maximize participation and fun, playing two innings, ensuring every player had the chance to bat. "It was incredibly rewarding to witness the joy and smiles on the players' faces,” explained Kaylor about helping. “You truly walk away feeling inspired by the resilience and spirit of these amazing athletes."
