Did you catch this afternoon’s plenary session at Esri UC by Jeff Kerby, a National Geographic Explorer and polar researcher? He spoke about using GIS technologies to monitor environmental changes in the Arctic region. He used two of our satellite images to illustrate his speech. We thought you might like to see the images in more detail so we’ve included them in this post. Jeff will also be at the Map Gallery Reception tonight, if you want to meet him or see these images in person. Congratulations to the winners of this year’s EY Open Science Data Challenge! Over 11,000 registrants from 119 countries developed answers for how to use data and predictive models to assess storm damage and support disaster response in data-poor communities. As part of this challenge run by EY, participants used our satellite imagery and Microsoft’s Planetary Computer. The two winning teams were recognized at the IGARSS conference in Greece this week: Hurricane Tech Pioneers (Malaysia): Sylvia Moey and Francis Chong Ngai Sang Lau (University of Hong Kong): Ngai Sang Laung, King Hin Sin and Ka Fai Chan Congratulations to these impressive data enthusiasts for their contributions in helping communities build a more stable and sustainable future. Next up? The 2025 challenge focused on The Urban Heat Island Effect. More details about this year’s challenge: https://ow.ly/Q46G50SAnMQ #OpenScience #AI

The Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium was developed specifically to host canoe slalom, canoe sprint and rowing events. Swipe ▶️ through these WorldView-3 images to see how construction progressed over time: 1️⃣: overview image from May 2023 of the completed stadium 2️⃣: close-up on the east end of the stadium after construction (May 2023) 3️⃣: May 2018 image of the east end of the stadium during construction. Take note of the heavy construction equipment and work vehicles visible on the construction site. 4️⃣: September 2017 image as construction as getting started on the east end. A big yellow crane is visible as well as staged construction equipment. Maxar’s constellation collects high-resolution satellite imagery, enabling current monitoring of change with an aerial-level of detail that provides a contextual layer for map visualization and digitization. Businesses and consumers can safely navigate areas of drastic change when their maps reflect the real-world environment. #viewfromspace #satelliteimagery #paris #france

The Tour de France commenced June 29 in Florence, Italy, and competing cyclists will cross the finish line in Nice, France, July 21. The race's route is known as one of the most challenging in the world, particularly the stages that take place in mountainous terrain. 🌍 The route makes for a perfect setting to showcase the power of Maxar's Precision3D technology, which turns our high-resolution satellite imagery into highly accurate 3D representations of the real-world. In doing so, it can virtually transport you to remote, real-world locations—giving you unprecedented insight into far away places. 📹 This Precision3D animation illustrates the challenging elevations and hair-raising hairpin turns during the Stage 1 route from Florence to Rimini. Check it out! And best of luck to all cyclists! #TourDeFrance #TheGlobein3D #Mapping #Geospatial

We have produced the world’s first 15 cm HD basemap from satellite imagery, the highest resolution commercially available! Vivid Advanced imagery basemaps offer global metro coverage and now regular updates over areas of major urban development, since these are the areas where map data is most likely out of date. It's an ideal solution for mapmakers who need fresh imagery in a consistent basemap to regularly update their layers; city planners who monitor progress through the lifecycle of a construction project; and flight simulation software developers who leverage Vivid Advanced’s visual consistency, aesthetics and markings identification for a realistic gate-to-runway experience. More details are available in today’s blog post: https://lnkd.in/gSF6VHha If you’ll be at Esri UC next week, stop by the Maxar booth (#729) to see Vivid Advanced in person. Photo: This Vivid Advanced image of western Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S., shows the status of new roads, planned lots and the number of established homes. The basemap’s metadata enables date attribution of features for a construction progress report. #mapmakers #basemaps #satelliteimagery #15cmHD #2Dmapping #urbanplanning #EsriUC2024 #EsriUC
