Using AI as a tool rather than a replacement in the workplace is the key to a dignified, equitable, and tech-driven future. AI solutions have the power to expand the bounds of our knowledge and fuel human creativity - we must involve civil society, employers, and workers in the conversation to bring those possibilities to life. PJMF President Vilas Dhar, joined by WorkingNation's Ramona Schindelheim, shared expert insights on how AI impacts our workforce, and the power it holds to advance human interests. Al Michaels’ voice being used to create commentary on the 2024 Summer Olympics raises the question: What happens when algorithms begin to favor familiarity/legacy over the possible merit/potential of up and coming talent? Responsible use of AI demands a balanced approach that pays respect to both established figures and emerging talent, ensuring access to opportunities is not skewed toward legacy. Favoring AI-generated content over human creativity highlights the necessity for more transparent decision-making, ensuring that AI complements entertainment rather than serving as a replacement for human expression. Putting AI tools in the hands of urban communities could be a key to mitigating climate impact. We have seen AI revolutionize infrastructure - from natural disaster prediction to efficient energy delegation. By equipping cities with the right tools and processes, we have the power to increase climate resilience. Tomorrow, PJMF Strategy Analyst Topaz Mukulu will provide insights during Transitions Research’s upcoming dialogue, “Can AI Help Battle Climate Change in Indian Cities?” alongside Anita Kane, Madhavi Jain, and Angelina Chamuah. Partner Spotlight | How are today’s leading changemakers equipping young talent for an AI-driven labor market? In March, PJMF President Vilas Dhar was joined by Dr. Brandon Nicholson, CEO of The Hidden Genius Project, and Dr. Jonah Edelman, co-founder and Executive Officer of Stand for Children, as well as co-founder of the Management Leadership for Tomorrow certification program, to engage with this question. Dr. Nicholson notes that the key is to “anchor on what our young people love and what gets them out of bed every day.” Both men lead organizations committed to shining a light on the creativity, talent, and aspirations of Black communities and building a future that celebrates diversity and representation. Here are a few takeaways from the discussion: ➡️ Start from an assets-based framework. Before engaging in workforce development for an AI era, leaders must identify and ground efforts in participants’ unique genius and potential. ➡️ Prioritize community ownership of programs and solutions. Both leaders emphasize community agency in their programs, designing platforms with and for communities of color and amplifying community insights for policy change. ➡️ Incorporate ongoing, holistic support grounded in community history and context. Preparing young people to excel in today’s labor market requires both hard skills training and culturally-informed mentorship, coaching, networks, and equitable, inclusive workplaces. ➡️ Build partnerships with decision-makers who can help scale your impact. Policy and investment decisions should be made in consultation with practitioners and communities at the forefront of impact – to transform not only our institutions, but also society at large. The emerging role of AI in the workplace is a wake-up call for us all. How is your team working to build more inclusive and future-forward spaces for professional growth and shared progress? There was one topic that CNN failed to address at the presidential debate, despite being a key development between the previous election and now: Artificial intelligence. Elected officials don’t need to be experts on AI, but they need to have a plan to utilize it to serve their people. PJMF President Vilas Dhar provided expert commentary on the importance of Biden and Trump having a plan to harness AI:
Tonight, as Joe Biden and Donald Trump take the debate stage, a critical question demands clarity: What is their plan to navigate the ethical, security, and growth implications of AI? We urgently need answers on how our presidential candidates will address the rapidly developing AI landscape. They must chart a new course in AI policy - one that prioritizes serving Americans, strengthens our society, and paves the way for a better future. Featured in U.S. News & World Report, PJMF President Vilas Dhar provided expert commentary on the importance of leadership that confronts AI head-on as it rapidly changes. New AI solutions demand a sharp focus on their impact, especially on vulnerable populations. We need robust frameworks to drive ethical decisions, fostering a culture of integrity, transparency, and perpetual learning. This isn’t just a top-down mandate; it’s a mission for everyone, from the CEO to every front-line worker. Dive into PJMF President Vilas Dhar’s latest collaboration with Alberto Chierici, Ph.D. here:

Thrilled to share the second interview in my ‘In Conversation With’ series on #HonestAI – this time, with none other than Vilas Dhar. Vilas and I met after I took several modules of his fantastic class on Linkedin Learning on ethics in the world of GenAI (check it out!). I connected with him, and he was very generous to devote his time for answering my questions. I’ve admired his work since then. As a global voice on equity in a tech-enabled world and part of the Advisory Council at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), we used this interview to discuss how we can better: - Prepare technology teams to make ethical decisions - Support C-Suite executives to lead responsibly in the AI era - Use AI to positively shape the future of work and society, particularly regarding equity & sustainability Read the article here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eRbgSXTF
