Several Michael Baker International colleagues were recently invited by Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons to attend a roundtable discussion hosted by Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS). Michael Baker was invited to participate in the discussion because of our firm’s longstanding relationship with Commissioner Simmons and our work in the state of Mississippi. Congressman Thompson invited U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to be a special guest at the roundtable discussion, as part of his visit to Mississippi to tour Congressman Thompson's and Commissioner Simmons' districts and discuss project funding for the area. The roundtable event included discussions and questions centered around the need for more economic opportunities in Mississippi through increased funding for medical care and transportation infrastructure investment. #RoundtableDiscussion #Transportation #Infrastructure

The SR 28 Highland Park Interchange Improvement Project was recently awarded the 2024 March of Dimes Transportation, Building and Construction Transportation Project of the Year. SR 28 is a vital thoroughfare that connects downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to its northeastern suburbs and beyond. The SR 28 Highland Park Interchange Improvement Project, led by PennDOT and involving multiple partners, addressed bottlenecks and frequent accidents caused by a two-lane section near the Highland Park Bridge. Key improvements included adding travel lanes, ramps, and pedestrian safety features. Despite challenges like narrow corridors, geotechnical issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was completed successfully in December 2023, enhancing traffic flow, safety and accessibility. #ProjectAwards #EngineeringExcellence

Nine members of our Wolf Pack traveled to Rwanda, East Africa, in March to construct a 157-foot-long suspended footbridge over the Mukebera River in partnership with Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) The Kabira 3 trail bridge will provide safe, year-round access for the surrounding communities. Colleagues from Michael Baker International’s Carlsbad and San Diego, California, offices recently volunteered with Feeding San Diego. Participants volunteered their time to pack 3,178 pounds of apples for Feeding San Diego’s School Pantry Program. The program offers a much-needed support system for low-income families. Because nearly 50% of K-12 students in San Diego County rely on free or reduced-price meals, the work of the School Pantry Program makes a significant difference in the lives of San Diegans facing hunger. #CommunityService #WolfPackPride #Volunteering

Michael Baker International announced today that Josh Rose, P.E., PMP, has been promoted to National Market Lead – Air Force. In this role, he will develop, support and execute National Federal Air Force accounts and contribute to growing Michael Baker’s Federal portfolio. He will collaborate across the firm’s Federal business to enhance small business relationships, assist in strategic planning activities, including the identification of teaming partners and transformational projects, and perform program management, quality assurance and other duties to support the execution of projects. Michael Baker International’s work on the Roberto Clemente Bridge Rehabilitation Project was honored with the Abba G. Lichtenstein Medal during the 2024 International Bridge Conference (IBC) that took place recently in San Antonio, Texas. Michael Baker performed analysis and design of the rehabilitations for the landmark Three Sisters Bridges in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: the Roberto Clemente Bridge, Andy Warhol Bridge and Rachel Carson Bridge. As the last of Pittsburgh’s Three Sisters self-anchored suspension bridges to be rehabilitated, the completed Roberto Clemente Bridge ensures that this trio of iconic bridges will continue to connect communities for years to come. The Abba G. Lichtenstein Medal recognizes a recent outstanding achievement in bridge engineering demonstrating artistic merit and innovation in the restoration and rehabilitation of bridges of historic or engineering significance. The Roberto Clemente Bridge Rehabilitation Project was selected from a global list of distinguished bridge projects to receive this award. Colleagues from Michael Baker International’s Baltimore, Maryland, office recently participated in the annual Baltimore 5K hosted by Corporate FunRun at Johns Hopkins University. Held at the university’s Homewood Field, the event hosted corporate teams from a wide variety of industries, including engineering, manufacturing, construction, technology and healthcare. Both runners and walkers participated in a 5K course that looped around the Johns Hopkins campus. The event focused on team building, fitness and giving back.
