About us

Founded in 1949, Mount Sinai Medical Center is the largest private, independent, not-for-profit teaching hospital in Florida. As a medical center whose mission is to provide high-quality health care to our diverse community, enhanced through teaching, research, charity care, and financial responsibility, Mount Sinai is committed to providing access to expert, compassionate care to all. Mount Sinai provides an unmatched level of clinical expertise and is dedicated to recruiting and training top physicians and surgeons from across the country, who work together across multiple disciplines to deliver a patient-centric approach to care. Mount Sinai’s on-going partnerships with New York’s prestigious Columbia University have allowed us to provide our community access to the only Ivy League-affiliated cardiovascular, urology, orthopedics, and cancer programs in South Florida. These programs combine the strengths of two leaders, enhancing the outstanding level of service and providing greater access to state-of-the-art technology, research, and treatment options. Among our many accolades and awards, Mount Sinai: * The only hospital in Miami-Dade to be named one of Healthgrades™ top 5% of hospitals in the nation for three years in a row, 2022, 2021 and 2020 * Named America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Critical Care, Gastrointestinal Care and Gastrointestinal Surgery by Healthgrades™ for 2022 as well as the GWTG Stroke Award (AHA) for Target Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll. This award highlights Mount Sinai’s performance with intravenous thrombolytics. * The only hospital in South Florida to be named one of 250 hospitals in the world to Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Smart Hospitals for 2021. *Mount Sinai’s stroke center is a Comprehensive Stroke Center with Joint Commission. This designation assures patients that the center follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve the outcomes of the most complex stroke cases.

  • This past Saturday, Mount Sinai Medical Center teamed up with the Family Resource Center of South Florida to pack over 300 backpacks for foster kids. The organization works to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect by strengthening families and creating healthy, safe environments. At our medical center, we share the same belief that nothing is more important than the safety and health of our community. A big thank you to our volunteers for living out our mission with such care and compassion! #GivingBack #CommunityGiving #CommunityCare #HelpingHands #WeAreMSMC

  • Mount Sinai is nationally recognized for providing world-class obstetric and gynecologic medicine from a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, neonatologists, and anesthetists, ensuring the best outcomes possible for mother and baby. In fact, our Labor and Delivery unit is the only one in the area to use PeriGen, a system that uses AI to analyze each patient’s vitals and data constantly. With PeriGen, physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals receive a visual indication of the patient’s current and previous conditions, cutting down on back-charting while increasing patient interaction. It’s no wonder Newsweek once again named us one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2024. Based on a nationwide survey of hospital managers and medical professionals, Mount Sinai is recognized for our compassion, expertise, and reliability in delivery and postpartum care. #MaternityCare #BestHospitals2024 #HealthyBabies #WeAreMSMC

  • Dr. Brian Slomovitz, Director of Gynecological Oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Center was the senior author of a clinical trial that was published by the New England Journal of Medicine last week. This achievement highlights groundbreaking research in the field of gynecologic oncology. Key takeaways include: 1. The prognosis for patients with recurrent cervical cancer is poor. Limited treatment options are available when disease progression occurs after first-line combination therapy. 2. In this trial, researchers evaluated the efficacy and safety of Tisotumab Vedotin, a tissue factor-specific antibody linked to monomethyl Auristatin E, as compared with chemotherapy, in patients with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer. 3. The median overall survival was significantly longer in the Tisotumab Vedotin group than in the chemotherapy group (30% reduction in risk of death). The results for progression-free survival also favored Tisotumab Vedotin (33% reduction in risk of recurrence). 4. Among patients with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer after previous systemic therapy, treatment with Tisotumab Vedotin resulted in significantly greater efficacy than chemotherapy. • Yesterday, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance to expand the county’s local provider participation fund. During the board meeting, Gino Santorio, President and CEO of Mount Sinai Medical Center, spoke about how the vote could lead to positive developments in healthcare by offering opportunities to the indigent and uninsured and by allowing patients, especially those with cancer, to access essential resources and services. At our medical center, our mission is to provide high-quality healthcare to our diverse communities through charity care and financial responsibility. We thank the commissioners for acknowledging this goal and, with the passage of this ordinance, enabling Mount Sinai Medical Center and other hospitals to better support underserved communities in Miami-Dade County.
