About us
The National Park Foundation works to protect wildlife and park lands, preserve history and culture, educate and engage youth, and connect people everywhere to the wonder of parks. We do it in collaboration with the National Park Service, the park partner community, and with the generous support of donors, without whom our work would not be possible.

The Piping Plover, an endangered shorebird native to New York City, has a global population of only 6,000-8,000. Each summer, these birds migrate from the Gulf of Mexico to the New York Harbor, with approximately 100 plovers nesting on Rockaway beaches. The NYC Plover Project works to protect plovers and educate the public about conservation and the effects of habitat disruption. NPF is a proud supporter of the NYC Plover Project’s Rockaways Education Initiative. In partnership with Gateway National Recreation Area, local schools, and community organizations, they engage high school students in field science studies that empower them to develop science-based solutions to ecological problems, advocate for endangered species, and gain exposure to career paths in STEM. 📸: National Park Service

Through Junior Ranger Angler, fishing is the catalyst for people and communities to be inspired, experience joy, and build lasting relationships while connecting with nature and the bodies of water in and around national parks. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eb5eJ5jp
🎣 Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Jacksonville youth recently had an amazing experience at our Junior Ranger Angler fishing clinic! They mastered fishing skills, learned about ethical angling and knot-tying, and explored our area's rich Gullah Geechee fishing heritage. 🌊 This fantastic event was a collaboration between Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve, Timucuan Parks Foundation, and the City of Jacksonville, and was made possible by a grant from the National Park Foundation. Thank you to everyone involved! 🙌🏾 #JuniorRanger #JuniorRangerAngler #OutdoorAdventure #CommunityPartnerships

Making investments in visitor experience at national parks, tackling deferred maintenance, and supporting park employees through housing requires government, philanthropy and partners to come together. The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) is critical to making this happen. NPF’s President and CEO Will Shafroth led a roundtable with National Park Service leadership on Capitol Hill bringing together NPF’s partners and congressional staff to discuss the impact the GAOA has had on the national mall, at Acadia National Park, and across the National Park System. Thanks to all who joined us!

We had an incredible day with Hollow Coves at the National Park Foundation's office! Earlier this week, the band treated us to a beautiful acoustic performance, followed by an engaging Q&A session. Their visit highlighted their love for the outdoors! As they continue their tour, the band plans to stop at national parks along the way. NPF is grateful that a portion of their US tour ticket sales will support our mission to protect national parks!

Today is World Turtle Day! National parks are home to many different turtles, in the ocean and on land. Unfortunately, habitat stressors, climate change, and human impacts have led to the decline of many turtle species within national parks. With NPF’s support, scientists at Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment and USGS are working with the National Park Service on a large turtle study across 15 national parks in the east. With a focus on three particularly vulnerable turtle species – wood turtles, spotted turtles, and eastern box turtles - scientists will collect important habitat and turtle data to help protect these turtles long term. Parks are where we can enjoy turtles in their natural habitats, but don’t forget it is their home! A trip to a national park should be filled with discovery, adventure, and creating new memories! If you are lucky enough to spot a turtle on your visit, for their own protection, please do not disturb or handle them. 📸: Virginia Tech/Max Jones
