In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we would like to thank all of our employees who shared their stories! Last, but certainly not least, meet Marcos Gomez, Leasing Associate at Solstice. Q: What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? A: It's a time for people to reflect upon the vibrant historical, cultural and social of the Hispanic people within the U.S. and throughout the world. Hispanic refers to a person with ancestry from a country whose primary language is Spanish. Q: How has your family's Hispanic ancestry/ origins influenced your life? A: Completely, I see them as courageous. Leaving what they know (their country) to come to an unknown territory. For a better tomorrow for generations to come. Seeing them working with consistency every day, pure sacrifice to bring to past their goals and dreams. Q: What advice would you give others of Hispanic ancestry in the USA? A: It’s the land of opportunities. Where you can come from poverty and rise like an eagle to whatever height your tenacity can take you and your family. Q: Tell me a fun fact about yourself - A: Made in Dominican Republic but born in NYC. Mom had me in the oven while she was coming to the USA. Blessed since birth to have an American citizenship without having to go through immigration processes. I see how heartbreaking and difficult it is for migrants to be able to advance their generation without having the opportunity to be in a place where all can be possible. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? A: I love that I can provide people a place they can call home. Not only that but a resort style living. As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we're encouraging our employees to share their stories! Meet Yilian Leon, Accounting Q: What does Hispanic heritage mean to you and how has your heritage shaped who you are today? A: Hispanic heritage to me is those individuals who are Spanish-speaking or rooted from Spanish- speaking countries. My culture/heritage has instilled in me the value of family, strong work ethic, and personal responsibility. That is why as a professional I am about working as a team and portraying my values in the workplace. Q: What is something you wish others knew about Hispanic heritage? A: While Hispanic people have different histories and cultures, we are united through our shared language of “Spanish”. I also believe for most Hispanics family is the most crucial above all else; that is why we work very hard and stride to learn and better ourselves for our wellbeing and our families. We are not afraid to take up challenges and speak up when help is needed. Q: What advice (personal or professional) would you give to others of Hispanic/Latino heritage? A: The best advice I can give a Hispanic/Latino is to embrace their culture. To never forget their roots and always push forward. That no matter what circumstances come our way we have fighting blood; we will make it through. I would also advise spreading your roots wherever you settle down and becoming a pillar of your community. Q: What are some of the things you love most about your Hispanic heritage? (Or what are you most of proud of regarding your Hispanic heritage?) A: As a Cuban I believe Hispanics are well known for our diverse and flavorful food and I cannot reutter family enough. Wherever there is family, there is good food, music, and lots of love.
