🚨 The Federal Trade Commission's report released Tuesday slamming the PBM industry for manipulating the drug supply chain to profit at the expense of patients and independent pharmacists gives further credence to a mountain of research finding the companies are contributing to higher drug costs, and could put additional pressure on Congress to act. IQVIA trends report shows global spending on cancer drugs rose by $25 billion from 2002 to 2023 and is predicted to reach $400 billion by 2028. Dr. Jeff Patton, MD told Oncology News Central that "drug discovery is one of the few areas in which the U.S. still leads the world. We should embrace innovation and support what’s best for patients because offering better therapy is the core of what we do." Patton urges oncologists to support new therapeutic developments even when it is challenging to keep pace. He says that the number of new treatment options oncologists can offer has exploded, making it difficult to keep up. That's why OneOncology has expertise and technology tools to help practice partners keep up with the innovation. https://lnkd.in/eS_epUbp

🚨 A recent National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®)survey highlights increased stability in cisplatin and carboplatin availability but also points to shortages elsewhere and the need for long-term fixes. 👨⚕️ Dr. Jeff Patton, MD tells Oncology News Central: “This is what happens every time: You get a shortage, then people either enter the market or the [U.S. Food and Drug Administration] lets the manufacturer plant open back up. And then all of a sudden, everything’s fine. But it’s not. The market is still unstable, and it might be fine for a year or two or three, but at some point, unless things change, we’re going to go through this again.” 🧠 Dr. Patton, and other experts, fault the lack of incentives for drug manufacturers to produce generic medications that are less profitable compared with branded drugs. These market forces lead to a reliance on companies in countries such as China and India to produce generics that leave supplies vulnerable to disruptions and quality issues.
