The INC (Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee) of the United Nations is developing environmental legislation to place legally binding limits on the production and disposal of single-use plastics, a global issue that affects us all. 🌊 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 & 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: This treaty could include both mandatory and voluntary approaches, addressing the entire life-cycle of plastic, including many of the common items found in PADI AWARE's marine debris program. 🌊 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Countries must comply or face consequences and accountability, ensuring the treaty’s effectiveness. 🌊 𝗣𝗔𝗗𝗜 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗘'𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲: PADI AWARE Foundation and environmental advocates worldwide use the #DiveAgainstDebris database to inform policy development and establish legislation to protect our oceans and the creatures living there.
