Earlier today, she announced she’s committing $1 billion over the next two years to leaders and organizations working to advance women’s power globally. The lack of reliable, affordable child care in the U.S. makes it hard for working parents—especially women—to go to work, be productive at work, and even stay in the workforce over the long term. This not only hurts their economic futures, but it hurts businesses' bottom line, too. But here’s the good news: Data shows that when employers invest in child care benefits for their employees, it more than pays for itself. Our survey also found that employees would be more likely to stay at their jobs if employers offered better caregiving benefits. https://lnkd.in/d94p5f86

As usual, women in the U.S. are buckling under the weight of growing caregiving responsibilities, and, as usual, our society isn't getting them the support they need. As Jessica Calarco's research makes alarmingly clear, this is a policy choice—and it's hurting everyone.

Caregiving is a growing concern for many families in the U.S. In our new survey, 76% of caregivers said being a caregiver has impacted their stress, while 67% said it's impacted their personal finances. While more investors and entrepreneurs are turning their attention to care, there’s still an enormous (and overlooked) opportunity to create solutions that not only make caregiving easier and more affordable for families, but also generate returns for investors. https://lnkd.in/eyyn-aMs

“It’s time that our leaders understand what women and families have grasped for decades: Care is an issue that affects everyone.” It’s also an issue we can do something about—and leaders can start by investing in affordable caregiving solutions. Here’s what that could look like, according to Renee Kuriyan Wittemyer, Pivotal’s VP of Program Strategy. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gmNQQTmZ

Companies stand to gain immensely from investing in child care benefits for their employees, according to a new study by Moms First and Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In addition to helping working parents find and afford care, these benefits can also boost their productivity, job satisfaction, career progression, and retention. That’s a win-win—for employees and for companies. https://lnkd.in/gTdmxrpF

This illuminating article from The Guardian, which features our partners Brennan Center for Justice and Issue One, shows what’s at stake for families, communities, and our democracy when women election officials face threats and harassment just for doing their jobs. https://lnkd.in/gREsfBE5

No one should ever be the target of threats or violence. Yet state and local officeholders across the U.S. are facing increased intimidation, abuse, and threats—often from the very people they’ve been elected to serve. And women and people of color are bearing the brunt of it, according to the Brennan Center for Justice. Explore their recommendations on what can be done to keep leaders safe and help protect our democracy. https://lnkd.in/geR8xNhB

“Immigrants, refugees, new Americans bring a really rich and vibrant perspective that is needed in our policymaking.” We couldn’t agree more, Ghida Dagher. Learn about the inspiring ways our partner, New American Leaders, is working to increase the representation of “New Americans”—immigrants, refugees, and the children of immigrants and refugees—in state legislatures across the U.S.
Immigrants are vastly underrepresented in elected office. This program is trying to change that
