"There is power in information, and Kim Jong-un has repeatedly signaled that he is terrified by it. South Korea and the United States have few levers to apply against the North. Delivering information that could destabilize the regime is clearly one they should use."

New report: America's public school teachers report worse pay and well-being compared with similar working adults. ✏️ About twice as many teachers report experiencing frequent job-related stress or burnout, compared with other workers. Roughly three times as many teachers report difficulty coping with job-related stress. ✏️ Teachers report working 9 hours per week more than similar working adults—that’s nearly 2 hours more per day in a 5-day work week—while earning about $18,000 less in base pay, on average.

Almost the entire coastline of the Baltic Sea now belongs to NATO members. Some commentators have even deemed it "Lake NATO." But the sea is *not* Lake NATO, say RAND experts. And if the alliance wants to deter Russian aggression in the region, then it must avoid complacency.

Today, we've released a new #RAND report, prepared for the CalAccount Blue Ribbon Commission, on the feasibility of a proposed #CalAccount that would provide a no-fee, no-minimum balance checking account for all Californians.. Previous FDIC survey data suggests roughly 14% of Californians are underbanked lacking regular access to banking services and another 5% are unbanked and reliant on alternative financial services (e.g., check cashing, prepaid cards). CalAccount has been proposed as a solution to increase financial inclusion. Our report pulls from a new RAND California Survey of Household Finance, an analysis of the current banking market in California and associated fees, an analysis of fees posed by alternative financial services, a legal assessment, analyses of benefits, costs and long run impacts, and an assessment of challenges to feasibility. From our analysis, the CalAccount Program could save unbanked and underbanked Californians from $41 to $185 per household per year in avoided fees. For low-income households, these savings could have meaningful impacts. And the program could significantly reduce disparities in access to banking by race and ethnicity. We find that, overall, the program is feasible, but its success will depend on banks’ interest in participating and whether target populations enroll. According to the new RAND survey, the largest barrier to enrollment could come from a lack of interest in having a bank account even if the account had no penalty or fees. If this barrier is not overcome and CalAccount does not reach a sufficient level of uptake, costs risk outweighing benefits. However, if it does, benefits—including meaningful savings for customers and significant reductions in unbanked disparities—are likely to outweigh costs. There's so much more to share, so please check out the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gyApAfWY Thanks to an incredible team of co-authors for making such a comprehensive study happen: Robert Bozick, Maria Angela (Maya) Buenaventura, Vegard Mokleiv Nygaard, David Metz, Patricia Tong, Jessie Coe, Kelsey O'Hollaren, Lane Burgette, Katherine Burnham Obenschain, Jim Mignano, Shannon Prier, Natalie Cox, Chandra Garber, Samuel Absher, Anujin Nergui, Kami E., Elizabeth Marsolais, George Zuo, Rakesh Pandey, Lily Hoak, Nicolas Robles, and James Syme! #CalAccount #FinancialInclusion
