Meet Amanda, a psychotherapist at the Center for Behavioral Health. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at Framingham State University, earned her MSW from Simmons University, and just in May, obtained her certification in non-profit management from Suffolk University. Amanda started her professional journey in 2016 at RFK Community Alliance. She currently specializes in trauma therapy and provides outpatient services to individuals of all ages in the local community. Amanda also works with high school students at Nashoba Regional High School and students at Dr. Franklin Perkins School who need more intensive care than is provided within the school. In her therapy sessions, Amanda focuses on setting short-term goals and teaching coping mechanisms to her clients. She is well-versed in telehealth services, enabling her to reach individuals throughout the state. Regardless of her clients' ages, Amanda always shares the insightful message: “Nobody is out to get you, everyone is trying to protect themselves.” This philosophy guides Amanda in her daily work as a psychotherapist.

Summer vacation started with a splash at Oatis Children's Center and Johnston Hall! The program participants had a blast tie-dying, participating in pie-eating contest, creating art, sack racing, and enjoying field sports. Plus, there were burgers, cotton candy, and snow cones, all made by our awesome staff. What a fantastic way to celebrate summer and our students' achievements! During Recognition Day, Student Speaker and graduating class member, Fin Leary from Worcester, shared a poignant and fun walk down memory lane after 8 years at Doctor Franklin Perkins School (DFPS). Check out his incredible speech and a quote below that resonated with his entire class! “Today, as I leave here as a well-rounded, slightly more mature young adult, this school has changed me so much for the better…I can tell you all for certain that if it was not for all the extracurricular activities and the unique learning environment here, and if I were just stuck in a classroom all day listening to lectures, I would not have graduated.” To learn more about DFPS, visit https://bit.ly/3P0v2Xc
