Scite is a platform that uses deep learning, natural language processing, and a network of experts to identify and promote reliable research by evaluating the veracity of scientific claims. We can automatically classify scientific citations as supporting, refuting, or mentioning, thus enabling us to score the veracity of scientific reports, researchers, institutions, journals, and scientific fields using a measure we call scite.

There are many search and discovery tools that help researchers and students better discover and understand research. What makes Scite different is our partnerships with publishers. We work directly with publishers to index and analyze citation statements extracted from full-text articles–this is unique. With some publishers like The Royal Society this means analyzing articles over one hundred years old! Pretty cool to see that Scite was able to classify a citation statement extracted from a paper published in 1897 (our oldest contrasting citation statement in Scite)

Not all citations are created equal. There are various reasons why someone might cite a certain paper, from reproducing methodology to contrasting a claim. So, why do we treat all citations the same? And, how can we simplify the way we analyze them? With Scite, examining the context of citations in a paper is much easier and faster. Check how it works below! #AI #Citations #Publishing
“Scite as a tool for smart citation analysis of academic publications and highlighted that the widespread adoption of smart citations could reshape academic practices and is crucial in assessing the importance and quality of scientific research, as simple citation counts are limited in providing a comprehensive understanding of a paper’s contribution” https://lnkd.in/e99PZ9V4

Today, more than 21,800 journals have received a new Impact Factor (IF). We believe that it is time to evolve the use and display of citations at the article level, as well as at the journal level. Here's why... IF was created as a metric to help librarians decide which journals are important to subscribe to. It is now more or less a mark of prestige. The IF is a simple ratio of the number of citations received in a year for publications in a journal that were published in the two preceding years. As shown in the literature and as we have demonstrated at Scite–not all citations are created equally. At Scite, we have developed a measure that looks at the ratio of supporting and contrasting citations at the journal level, called the Scite Index (SI). The SI for any journal with enough of these types of citations can be seen on our thousands of journal dashboards: https://scite.ai/journals If you’re a publisher and are interested in making sure your content is indexed in Scite, please PM me.

I just came across a class listing by Purdue University on Scite. Not sure why it caught me by surprise knowing we are working directly with Purdue but it made me reflect how far we’ve come! The idea behind scite was formulated in response to a 2012 article from Amgen highlighting reproducibility issues in cancer research (https://lnkd.in/e_PW7V6S). At the time, I was finishing my PhD at Virginia Tech studying how aneuploidy affects chromosome segregation in cancer cells. Compelled to do something and with the observation that I knew certain highly cited studies in my field were refuted, we wrote a paper suggesting a solution. That paper was published 10 years ago in The Winnower, a publishing company I had started during my PhD. In this paper, we suggest a solution that has since become Scite. If you’d like to hear more about Scite or if you want a proper demo of it, let me know!
With last night's NBA Finals win, the Boston Celtics passed the Los Angeles Lakers for the most titles by any franchise. But here’s a fun fact for all you research enthusiasts: the Boston Celtics are also the more talked-about team in academic research articles – with 98 mentions compared to the Lakers' 54! From dominating the court to sparking academic discussions, the Celtics carry the crown (for now). Explore what the research says about the Celtics here: https://lnkd.in/eEpdcKhg
