We’re celebrating Academic Excellence and Community Commitment!  At the end of the school year, we were thrilled to gather with local students, their families and donors at Southcoast Health’s annual scholarship luncheon. This year, 28 scholarships were awarded to students who demonstrated academic excellence and are planning to attend higher education, working towards a career in the medical field.  The scholarships totaled $42,000, with each student receiving $1,500 towards their educational journey on behalf of all three Southcoast Health hospitals. This marks the highest amount awarded since this program began in 1941 and was made possible by the generous $1,000 individual contributions from donors and $500 match from the Southcoast Health Ambassadors. “This program is truly special as it reflects Southcoast Health’s commitment to the community. I want to thank the Southcoast Ambassadors for their longstanding dedication to our region’s students, and our wonderful donors for their ongoing generosity. By supporting those who pursue careers in healthcare and medicine, we are ensuring there will be skilled caregivers to serve our region for generations to come,” said David O. McCready, President and CEO at Southcoast Health during the event.  Congratulations to all the recipients!   Read about our scholarship recipients: https://lnkd.in/ePgU7vMz

For Riley Mydlack and Danny Andrade, caring for others is second nature. It's the reason the two of them work for Brewster Ambulance Service as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), and why our St. Luke’s Hospital Crapo Unit recently recognized them at a team huddle. A few weeks ago, on a typical afternoon, Riley and Danny were called to transport a discharged patient from St. Luke’s. As the two prepared to leave the hospital, they saw another patient experiencing a medical emergency and immediately jumped in to assist our care team as an emergency code was called. “There is no doubt that Danny and Riley’s quick thinking and willingness to step in during an emergency played a vital role in saving this patient's life,” says Beena Kuriakose, Clinical Nurse Manager for Crapo Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital. “We are immensely grateful to them for going above and beyond to aid our team and our patient.” The event serves as a reminder of how essential teamwork is between the hospital and EMS to provide exceptional care to our community. Thanking them for going above and beyond for our patients, Riley and Danny were invited back to St. Luke’s to be honored by the team. Here they were also reunited with the patient who wanted to thank them personally for their lifesaving actions that day. On behalf of all of us here at Southcoast Health, we convey our deepest appreciation to Danny, Riley, and the entire Brewster team. Their assistance and dedication to patient care are exemplary, and we are very fortunate to work alongside such outstanding partners in patient care.

Michele Blackburn’s life changed forever when a terrorist’s bomb exploded just feet from where she was standing near the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The injuries to her left leg were so severe that surgeons initially thought they might have to amputate. She spent four weeks recovering from her injuries and surgeries and learning to walk again. As she underwent rehabilitation, Michele knew she needed a primary care doctor to oversee her care and found one not far from where she lived: Southcoast Health primary care provider, Dr. Felicia Barreto. “It was such a relief having somebody I trusted at my side,” Michele said. “She doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer and she sticks with things until she is satisfied. I absolutely trust her.” Read Michele’s story: https://lnkd.in/eAcJ2ttk

Meet 2023 President’s Award team honoree, Fairhaven Radiology. To them, More than medicine is: Working Together. “We’re a tight-knit group. We genuinely care about our patients and each other. There’s a real sense of camaraderie and collaboration on our team. We often see repeat patients and their journeys become ours. The team is always willing to support one another, even when it means crossing over into different functions to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. Together, no task is too big or small. It’s not always knowing what to do; it’s about understanding how to work together. It’s as if we’re all in sync, moving harmoniously as one.” At Southcoast Health, our promise to you is exceptional care from people who care. How do we do this? By working together, as a team. Every one of our employees plays a vital role in ensuring we provide the best care to you, our valued patients. Here, we introduce you to some of the amazing people of Southcoast Health.
