  • We honor the exceptional accomplishments and achievements of our past and present clinical trainees who have graduated from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. These individuals have been under the guidance of Dr. Laura Hunt, our Director of Psychological Services, who has imparted a wealth of knowledge, skill, and insight for our students to embody in their new roles. The recent alumni will uphold a superior standard of excellence and compassionate care at Streamwood. Emma R., Wendy P., and Caitlin C. are set to assume the role of primary therapists within the Social Services team, while Dr. Sayali Inamdar will embark on her post-doctoral fellowship in the Psychological Services Department in the coming weeks. Emily S. completed her studies at Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC in May and has already started in social services. Shonna C., a graduate from Roosevelt University, will commence her duties in August. We could not be more proud of the great success of our social service department and all of our recent graduates!

  • July is #MinorityMentalHealthMonth. It is essential to recognize the unique challenges and barriers that minority communities face when it comes to mental health. This month serves as a reminder to prioritize mental well-being within diverse populations and to address the disparities in access to mental health resources. Minority communities, including but not limited to black, Hispanic, Asian, and Indigenous populations, often experience higher rates of mental health conditions due to various factors such as systemic inequalities, discrimination, cultural stigma, and a lack of culturally competent care. By raising awareness and promoting mental health education and resources within minority communities, we can work towards breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and improving access to quality care for all individuals. Let us take this month as an opportunity to advocate for equitable mental health support and to create a more inclusive and understanding society for everyone.

  • We recently conducted a crucial and insightful session on suicide prevention, led by our therapist, Will, at the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin. The young individuals in attendance were educated on the importance of seeking assistance, identifying behavioral changes in themselves and others, and finding the courage to advocate for those struggling with suicidal thoughts. It is essential to start early in reducing the risk factors of suicide and enhancing protective factors in children's lives. By implementing comprehensive approaches that support mental well-being, nurture essential life skills, and foster positive relationships with caring adults, we can protect children from suicide and assist them in transitioning into adulthood in a healthy manner. For over three decades, addressing suicide in young individuals has been our area of expertise, and we are dedicated to being a transformative resource and beacon of hope for any individual or family facing this challenge. If you are aware of someone battling suicidal thoughts, please call 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline immediately and contact us at 630-837-9000, so we can provide the necessary support immediately.
