We're celebrating 75 years of service to Texas school boards.
About us
We're a nonprofit, nonpartisan, education association that serves Texas school boards — the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The Texas Association of School Boards is a voluntary, nonprofit, nonpartisan, statewide educational association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards — the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state with more than 7,000 school board trustees. Our mission is to promote educational excellence for Texas public schoolchildren through advocacy, visionary leadership, and high-quality services to school districts. TASB has 75 years of experience with Texas public schools and provides assistance in all areas of public-school governance and operation with high-quality solutions and services designed to support the critical work of educating the millions of public schoolchildren in our state. For decades, nearly all school boards in Texas have been active members of TASB — giving us the opportunity to coalesce and amplify school trustees’ voices across the state. Our longstanding membership rate is the result of keeping the needs of school boards — and their districts — at the heart of everything we do. The initial focuses of TASB — advocacy, training, and information resources — are as important today as they were in the beginning. And as schools have had to respond to inevitable challenges, so has TASB responded with innovative solutions and services that seek to minimize the operational burdens of government and keep taxpayer resources for the benefit of local schools and their communities. Besides legal, policy, and human resources support, member school boards have access to risk management services, investment and insurance assistance, a purchasing cooperative, an energy cooperative, facility services, special population consulting, and more.

Developing a growth mindset allows school boards to realize their potential, increase resilience, and achieve success. And going hand in hand with a growth mindset is the ability to navigate the challenging conversations that sometimes happen in the boardroom. These topics are critical to a board's success, which is why two new courses are now available in the Online Learning Center (OLC) for trustees. Learn more about the classes and find out how to register.

Because state funding in Texas is tied to daily attendance, the financial impact of a student's absence can be significant. When a student misses school, a district may lose between $30 and $50 per day, depending on the state formula. Our newest publication on budget-related topics can help trustees better understand the financial dynamics of education and the crucial role attendance plays.
