From Law Student to Court TV Analyst: A Full Circle Moment During the Alec Baldwin Case Dismissal 🏛📺 #LawLife Yesterday was an unprecedented day. I used to watch Court TV as a first-year law student at St. Thomas law in Miami. I would leave law school and head to my house, where I knew no one other than my fellow 1L classmates. It was a time of clarity and focus for me, with law school being my top priority. I would turn on Court TV and have trials playing in the background as I studied. Fast forward 20 years, and now I find myself on Court TV twice a week. Yesterday, I began coverage with Julie Grant’s Opening Statement about the Alec Baldwin case. We discussed the earth-shattering testimony from the previous day, which revealed that critical and material evidence was not provided to the defense. The rest of the day involved hearings outside the jury's presence, who were sent home early. The day concluded with the judge dismissing the case against Alec Baldwin. The prosecution, specifically the sheriff's office, mishandled evidence and was never provided to the defense. This case underscores how our criminal justice system works: ✅ Defendants are presumed innocent ✅ Defendants have the right to a fair trial ✅ The prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt ✅ Defendants have the right to confront and challenge witnesses ✅ The Fifth Amendment ensures their right to remain silent without prejudice ✅ Defendants are entitled to see the evidence against them before trial (emphasis added 🌟) I'm proud to be part of #CourtTV and inspired by the judge's strength in calling out prosecutorial misconduct. I was on Court TV this morning discussing this significant development. Yesterday, testimony revealed that ammunition, potentially explaining the live round that killed the cinematographer on the set of "Rust," was dropped off at the police department. However, this crucial evidence was not included in the "Rust" case file but placed in another case and was not provided to the defense until now. Today, the judge held hearings, calling multiple witnesses. It was discovered that the reason the ammunition was not connected to the "Rust" case was due to failed communication attempts with the individual who provided it, despite his clear statement linking it to the incident. Consequently, the judge dismissed the case with prejudice due to this serious oversight. This decision also impacts the case of Hannah Gutierrez, the armorer who was previously convicted and is currently serving her sentence. Her attorneys are likely rushing to file an urgent motion for her release.
