We are the Area Agency on Aging 1-C in Southeast Michigan servicing the 34 communities of southern and western Wayne County. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; federal ID 38-2322126. Our programs and services include the MI Choice Medicaid waiver, nursing facility transitions, Meals on Wheels, Holiday Meals for Seniors, Medicare counseling, Friendly Reassurance, health and wellness programs, and many others. July is Disability Pride Month! This month marks the celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was passed on July 26, 1990. Members of the LGBTQ+ community with Alzheimer’s disease and their spouses, partners, and caregivers often struggle to find inclusive healthcare providers. They also worry about stigma and have higher rates of poverty and social isolation. The Alzheimer’s Association has dementia and Alzheimer’s resources specifically for the LGBTQ+ community to navigate this complex disease.
