The Wyandotte County Historical Museum invites everyone to celebrate the Pope Family Emancipation, recipients of the first and only know deed of emancipation produced in the state of Kansas. This program on Saturday, June 8 at 10AM is organized by the Charles Edward Pope Senior Foundation in partnership with the Museum. This writ of emancipation, signed by Wiley M. Pope and Justice of the Peace Charles Chadwick, freed Pope's Family on June 6, 1860. It symbolized a pivotal moment in Kansas history as recognition that enslaved people should be freed. Check out this fun project with the students of John Fiske Elementary and the ARMOURDALE RENEWAL ASSOCIATION to bring public art to our streets. Students, with a grant funded by the Union Pacific Railroad, were able to liven up the block with this creative crosswalk and also designate an area for the safe passage of students while they walk to school. Well done! #SafeRoutestoSchool #publicart #DotteProud https://lnkd.in/gAYdwumX
