  • The Virginia Department of Education is seeking an individual to provide leadership for both internal and external operations for the agency, including its technology hardware functions. The assistant superintendent will serve as a member of the agency’s Executive Leadership Team and will be responsible for critical areas of the agency including support and oversight for the agency’s facilities occupied by staff including maintenance functions, logistics, and fleet management. This individual will also be responsible for technology customer service to employees, inventory, maintenance, and support of all agency hardware including wireless internet switches, VOIP telephones, and cellular devices. External operations include the agency’s nutrition, transportation, construction, architecture, and safety/security offices that provide associated support and technical assistance to local school divisions. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in project management including budget management, deadline tracking, day-to-day operations, and risk mitigation.   Minimum Qualifications Core Knowledge and Experience: - Experience leading an organization’s hardware and technology infrastructure functions including inventory management, maintenance, procurement, and customer service. - Knowledge of best practices in technology hardware infrastructure and support in leadership of a modern state agency. - Awareness of nation-leading practices in support of state-wide and agency-wide initiatives and goals to school divisions in areas related to safety/security, nutrition, transportation, construction, architecture. - Demonstrated experience in project management including budget management, deadline tracking, day-to-day operations, and risk mitigation. - Ability to identify creative solutions to the logistical and operational needs of the agency and local school divisions. - Knowledge of Virginia’s support and logistical programs that support local school divisions. - Ability to manage large scale programs including operational oversight, competitive grants, and compliance and monitoring. - Knowledge of project planning tools, stakeholder engagement, risk mitigation, and performance analysis - Knowledge of school division operational structures as well as federal and statutory codes for all logistical and support operations needed for a state agency. - Ability to communicate complex information to various audiences orally and in writing. - Ability to lead, supervise, and evaluate staff. - Ability to research, assess, develop, and implement strategic educational initiatives. - Ability to manage large scale instructional improvement programs and to communicate information to various audiences orally and in writing.   For additional information and to apply, please visit the following link: https://lnkd.in/deZQMg78

  • The Virginia Department of Education is seeking an innovative and strategic financial leader that serves on the senior leadership cabinet. This position reports directly to the state superintendent. The department’s chief financial officer will be responsible for critical areas of the agency including the planning and management of resources, the efficient and effective deployment of resources, aligning resources to the overall strategies of the agency, and future visioning of financial sustainability of birth to 12 educational funding across the Commonwealth.   Core Knowledge and Experience: Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting, auditing, and budgeting functions, as well as agency, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding financial operations, business processes, and reporting requirements. Comprehensive knowledge of governmental GAAP, GASB, and governmental/fund accounting and financial reporting requirements and procedures. Working knowledge of the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP), Virginia Public Procurement Act (VPPA) and the Agency Procurement and Surplus Property Manual (APSPM), the Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards (ARMICS), agency-specific fiscal requirements, and Virginia state government budgetary processes. Considerable knowledge of federal education program and funding requirements, including the federal OMB Uniform Standards. Ability to strategically analyze expenditures and align financial planning and forecasting to strategic priorities of agency. Ability to facilitate forecasting, budgeting, and tracking expenditures with senior leadership staff. Ability to manage senior office-level directors with sizable staff and complex fiscal and budgetary operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with interagency leaders, staff leadership, legislative members, DOE staff, and external customers, including leaders in local school divisions.
