We are excited to share the progress on our residential landscape design and engineering project in Southborough! Happy to see this design come to fruition. 🎉

WDA acts as a landscape architect and master planning consultant for the Town of Holbrook as part of the development of their 217,000 sf, 1,095 student Pre K-12 School, located on the site of the existing community high school. The design consolidates all of the existing schools in the District into one location, creating the first PreK-12 school built in the Commonwealth under the Massachusetts School Building Authority. The building design allows for grades PreK-5 to be completely separated from grades 6-12, with each section of the school having its own separate entrance, administration, and facilities. The highlight of the site design is the development of a campus green that is programmed with walking paths, seat walls, lighting, mounded swaths of native grasses and perennials, large caliper deciduous canopy trees, and a 15,000 sf community playground. The design impetus for this space is the development of an open space system that gives students the feel of a higher education campus. The main circulation spine bisects the green, leading visitors on a procession from the main parking and drop-off areas to the main auditorium entrance along an oversized walkway through an arching canopy of native Elms. Each school wing entrance is also designed with four-season interest and low maintenance, native plantings. A new state-of-the-art athletic facility complex is developed to the south and east of the building. Facilities include a multi-use synthetic turf field for football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey, complete with 300-seat bleachers, a concession and ticket stand, and storage facilities. A 6-lane synthetic surface running track surrounds the multi-use field, and field sport facilities including high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, and javelin populate the D-zones of the field and adjacent lawn areas. A natural turf boys baseball field and a natural turf girls softball field, both developed with infield underdrain systems and a custom infield soil mix, are located adjacent to one another to the east. #LandscapeDesign #MasterPlanning #CampusDesign #MassachusettsSchools #WDA

Driving Tomorrow: WDA Design Group's Hyundai Dealership Project on Turnpike Road In the heart of the Turnpike Road retail corridor, our upcoming Automotive Dealership for Hyundai is set to redefine the landscape seamlessly. The proposed dealership, spanning 46,843 square feet, integrates existing abutting structures, creating a showroom, sales and financing offices, a service shop, and parking garages for an immersive car display experience. Nestled within the Highway Business Zoning District, the project began with a challenge - The transformation of two-story office buildings, complete with associated utilities, parking spaces, and circulation, into a state-of-the-art Hyundai dealership presented an exciting opportunity. Efficient site planning became the key, allowing us to harmonize with existing wetlands, navigate flood zones, and incorporate the CMRPC Boston Worcester Air Line Bike Trail Route passing through the site. Sustainability took center stage in our vision, evident in innovative stormwater management and a landscaping plan that transcends aesthetics. We have implemented varied approaches like strategic placement of evergreen trees for screening and the thoughtful integration of conservation seed mixes. Every detail reflects our dedication to preserving natural habitats, with the wetland buffer zone poised for restoration with native species—a testament to our belief that design, and conservation can coexist seamlessly. This project stands as more than just a testament to our commitment; it's a celebration of collaborative, community-driven design. Transforming Grey to Green: Cultivating a Conservation Oasis with Strategic Stormwater Design. WDA is thrilled to unveil its latest project: the restoration of a historic mixed-use commercial building that dates back to 1900. Situated within the 200’ Riverfront Area of Cold Harbor Brook in downtown Northborough, our objective was to revert the site to its original residential use. In seamlessly integrating the building into its surroundings, a meticulously designed extension and key landscape enhancements were implemented. Given the historical degradation of the area due to paved surfaces and compromised soils, our focus remained on environmental stewardship. Our comprehensive stormwater management plan included cutting-edge infrastructure for collection, treatment, and responsible discharge. The removal of existing pavement near the wetlands made way for state of the art infrastructure for treatment, infiltration, and discharge via a rain garden in the northern part of the property. Anticipated site improvements featured new paved walkways, steps at the building's front, and an east-side walkway connecting to the parking lot complete with EV stations & enhanced accessibility. Thoughtful additions like site lighting, bicycle storage, and proper refuse disposal with screening contributed to a well-rounded, sustainable design. WDA Design Group is seeking a full-time Civil Design Engineer. This person will work with our engineering and landscape staff to prepare grading / site / utility design plans, prepare stormwater and septic designs and drainage calculations, prepare feasibility studies and permit applications, as well as assisting survey staff with preparation of existing conditions and various survey plans. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (E.I.T desirable), Soil Evaluator Certification, and septic system design experience a plus! 5 years design experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Hydrology/hydraulics experience using HydroCAD, and the ability to work with clients, town boards, cooperating subs, and other project related parties to maintain smooth project management.
