“My first experience with Ariella was via a resume that she had sent in with a job application. The content in that resume was what I expected from a recent graduate; a little experience with a good GPA. The reason we got to the next step in the interview process was because I was struck by how clearly and neatly, she was able to present this information. Being clear and concise is not very easy and doing it well on paper is even less common. After that interview, I had the pleasure of working with Ariella for almost three years. She became someone that I relied on because I knew she had the persistence to figure things out and the grit to see things through to completion. A test of her grit came after she had been with the team for a little over a year. We had a very full workload that was compounded by the introduction of a new innovative design on our most popular products and by the fact that we had an unexpected departure from our team. Ariella picked up the extra load without complaint or reservation, even though it was full of many unknowns and on a very tight timeline. Her determination and ability to self-educate aided her in finishing the development of the projects for an on-time delivery. Along with having the persistence to see large amounts of work through to a known end, Ariella also demonstrated the ability to work diligently upon a project with no known solution. Near the end of her time on my team I gave her an innovation task to see if it was possible to design a new product that didn’t have visible fasteners. Months of hard work, imagining what is possible, working through proto sketches and proof of concept models she arrived at a solution that worked well and within the very limited space constraints. As evidenced from above, she was instrumental in helping the department reach its quarterly goals. Often the goals where not easy to achieve with the resources we had available. Without complaint she would roll up her sleeves and put in as much time and effort as was needed to get the job done. Ariella’s mindset of being the ultimate team player reached farther than just my department though. Our company had undergone a lot of social turmoil and company culture was the worst I have ever experienced. Ariella is very much a community builder and shortly after joining our culture team she was chosen to lead the team. Under her tenure the company culture transformed from one of backbiting silos to a place that felt unified and a friendly place to work. She organized service projects, lunch bike rides and when COVID hit she even worked up virtual happy hours so we could still be connected. It takes a lot of work to break down department cultural walls, find common ground and transform what seemed to be warring factions in the company into a unified singular team. Ariella is quite modest, and I am sure that she views many of these things as not that influential. When I look back however, I see the culm”

About once a month, The NARWHALS Club would go to one of several main locations (Harms Woods, Blue Star Memorial Woods, Emily Oaks) to restore these locations. This was done using hand saws and loppers to remove invasive Buckthorn and Garlic Mustard, and fire was then used to permanently destroy the plants. Native plant seeds were also spread throughout the areas once the invasive plants had been cleared.

This is not an official title at SOG, but I am in charge of coordinating volunteer opportunities for SOG employees. In 2019, I coordinated efforts for a day with Mountains to Sound Greenway to help remove invasive raspberries and mulch the area at a location close to SOG. I also coordinated the Hopelink volunteer day for those less interested in getting dirty. More volunteer opportunities underway for this year!

Collecting data on Western Redcedars in hard to reach places to help scientists create chemical and genetic databases. These databases create a genetic map where the trees in question grow, and will help determine if the logs in the timber industry are legally harvested based on where they came from.
