“Erin and I worked together for several years at MACC. During that time I watched Erin quickly grow in her positions and she was soon mentoring and managing junior staff. We collaborated on many different projects and worked together to create efficiencies within our department, Many of our MACC members have an affirmative action plan. One of them had received a Workforce Certificate of Compliance Audit from the MN Dept. of Human Rights. This was a really big deal because it was the first time one of our members was audited for this and they were requiring such much information and documentation to show that the member is complying with the commitments in their AAP. The audit became Erin's main priority. She had to work with the member and our HR team to put new policies/processes into place, create training to educate leaders on AA/EEO and provide a written explanation along with supporting documentation for each of the long list of audit questions. MDHR determined that the member was in substantial compliance. Erin's project management, organizational skills and due diligence paved the way when several of our other members were audited over the next year. She did an amazing job completing this grueling audit. Erin would be an excellent strategic partner to any organization! A goal of mine was to obtain my SHRM-SCP certification in 2020. I knew Erin had taken the exam and passed so I reached out to see if she would be interested in being my mentor to help me prepare and study for it. I thankfully say that she welcomed the opportunity. I purchased the online SHRM learning system and hard copy books, Erin reviewed them and created a study plan for me from each of the learning modules. Erin customized the training to my needs, we met frequently in-person to discuss any concerns/questions I had and she regularly checked in with me to see how things were going. I passed the exam in February! Erin's expertise, suggestions, insights, planning and motivation was extremely helpful. Erin should be a teacher for the instructor-led learning. I honestly feel I wouldn't have been able to stay focused and engaged had it not been for her mentorship. She became my cheerleader, supporting me through the entire process. Thank you so much Erin! ”

How can you communicate outplacement services to employees effectively?
Its been my experience that offering outplacement services is genuine way to show support during an exit for an employee. It allows for an opening in the conversation to humanize the interaction, be person centered in your approach and acknowledge what they are going through is difficult. I think its important to not only let an exiting employee know they are eligible for the services but to highlight what the specific offerings are; resume review, coaching, job search support. The other thing I've liked to do it ask the exiting team member to let us know if they have any issues with the service and if they find it helpful. Ultimately, its our vendor and the goal is for them to actually receive support.
