This is one of the biggest reasons I joined this company and something I don't think gets enough attention. We've become so accustomed to just accepting our privacy being invaded that a company not using data they capture about their customers almost seems archaic. While metrics and customer profiling/success templating are much more difficult, I'd rather tell a customer that their privacy is paramount, than be armed with assumptions based on "similar" customer profiles we may have. As the Solution and Application market continues to expand, an interesting piece we are seeing is just how different "similar" customers can be. Even if customers share the same industry, region, employee size, or any other firmographic information, the divide between the customers can still be vast and the inefficiencies of trying to adapt processes to a bell curve solution are evident. Many have justified the capturing of customer data and it's usage as a means to help understand someone's business and predict their needs, but that reasoning is evaporating, and we are understanding just how big of an income source customer data is for some solution providers. I know several tech dinosaurs, start ups, marketing engines, whose data value long eclipsed their actual solution value. It feels good to know that Zoho will never be in that category.

“Hi Andre, why isn't your technology being utilized in California where they (we) are having big fires? Thank you! 🌷" One of my LinkedIn friends "G" asked me this today. It was both a good question and a great show of support. I wrote a lengthy reply to her. I think the question can be divided into two aspects: 1. Why isn't FireTech/NatureTech being utilized at scale in California? 2. Why isn't RoboticsCats' technology being utilized at scale in California? I am busy this week with internship onboarding and arranging some important business trips. I don't plan to write anything, but I want to explore question #2 today. First of all, we do have some customers in California. They are innovators. They are heroes. Let’s break down the reasons why RoboticsCats’ technology isn’t widely utilized in California: a. Market Challenges: Selling to a new geographic market is always a significant hurdle, especially for startups. California, with its unique ecosystem and wildfire challenges, presents additional complexities. RoboticsCats is actively working on building connections, understanding the market, and establishing a sales force to address this. b. Partner-Centric Approach: RoboticsCats follows a channel sales model, collaborating with partners and resellers. Developing productive partnerships takes time and effort. Currently, we don’t have channel partners specifically in California, but we’re actively seeking opportunities to change that. c. Marketing and Ecosystem: While we have some customers in California, our active marketing efforts haven’t focused exclusively on the state. We’re working on strengthening our financial position and ecosystem to expand our reach. Other startups in the wildfire detection space have robust ecosystems in California, and we’re striving to build our own version through initiatives like startup competitions.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to share some lessons I learned at the Northern Utah NCWIT Aspirations in Computing awards. This is an exceptional group of young women (and their families and teachers!) who are the next generation of #womenintech Here's what I wanted them to know: If you listen to the story of my career, you could hear a story where everything is "up and to the right" - I keep getting promoted, keep learning, keep growing, keep getting awards and recognition. Everything gets better and better. But. That's only half the story. I've also gotten fired, laid off, burned out, and endured many work and personal setbacks. Life and careers don't follow a straight line. I used to see my career as a ladder - keep climbing up one rung at a time, and you'll find success. However, a career ladder is a brittle concept. When a rung breaks or your ladder gets kicked out from under you, it all comes tumbling down. Plus, with a single-minded focus on the next rung, you might miss out on some interesting opportunities to your left and right along the way. Sometimes it took getting kicked off of the ladder (or having the ladder kicked out from under me) to embrace trying something new. Your career is a jungle gym, not a ladder. Interesting opportunities are everywhere - left, right, and straight ahead. Embrace the jungle gym: your career path will be more resilient, and you'll discover more options. This year, I wanted to make myself uncomfortable. I wanted to expand my relationship with curiosity. I wanted to do something that I was intimidated by. I am proud to join the less than 2% of Latinx women who can call themselves Software Engineers. Thank you to Hack Reactor for guiding me through an intensive, immersive full-stack software engineering program. Not only have I increased my technical acumen and sharpened my problem-solving skills, but i've learned to embrace uncertainty, find comfort in failure, and unleash my creativity. I often speak on this topic at conferences and learn a ton from audience members who share their stories. A few of these have come from my experiences and those conversations. Mike Fisher's blog this week is 1:1 to what I experienced working in software and trying to get things done at an organizational level. I had a similar solution of going back to school ( <3 hook'em Texas McCombs School of Business) and agree that it's a good solution, albeit a big solution. One benefit of school over a cheaper , quicker solution was getting to socialize with people from other disciplines outside of work. It's one thing to learn about IRR, hurdle rates, free cash flow in a book. It's another to have beers with people who have done it for 8 years and hear their stories. Especially important for working in #product where effectiveness is built on the trust earned from understanding other's perspectives. https://lnkd.in/e6yb8VXE
