Pennsylvania -- will they or won't they legalize cannabis for adult use? In this edition of "will they or won't they," a legalization bill in the House calls for a state-run model similar to how the Keystone State runs alcohol. But that's not necessary, nor is it ideal. Alcohol and cannabis are fundamentally different products. Proponents of this House bill say that the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board already has existing infrastructure to carry out some functions, like tax collection. But PA also has more than 20 other states to look to for successful adult-use cannabis industry models, programs built specifically for the plant and not retrofit from a completely different product. This could create more gaps and difficulties for an industry that will need stellar, tailored support from its very first moments to succeed. #pennsylvania #adultusecanna #cannabisindustry #eastcoast

It's thrilling to see the New Jersey cannabis industry thriving, with a 23% increase in total revenue in the last quarter of 2023, particularly in the pre-roll segment, where sales have risen by 8%. Despite regulatory hurdles and limited brand diversity, the market is seeing robust growth, with leaders like Verano holding a 21% share and Miss Grass capturing 13% with its 0.4g 5-pack minis. While the timelines are HIGHLY variable at the moment, between a few months on the short end to multiple years on the long-term forecast on when exactly cannabis rescheduling to Schedule 3 (S3) will be formally approved, the Surfside team wanted to share our initial advice on how to best prepare our current (and future!) clients for the positive impacts on their ability to compliantly advertise & market their products and services. The TL/DR: One of the biggest implications of the rescheduling will be the removal of an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code known as 280E. With the change in legislation, cannabis businesses expect to be able to take normal tax deductions afforded to other industries on selling, general, and administrative expenses. With that said, the ability to deduct marketing and advertising costs themselves is the pending game changer. How's the NYC cannabis market roll-out going? Take a look at the recent OCM assessment task force findings sent to the governor. The report highlights key areas for improvement within the agency's operations and the adult-use retailer licensing process. Key findings include limited administrative depth, decentralized licensing operations, complex requirements, sparse customer service, lack of data and KPIs, and the use of multiple disparate IT systems. These insights shed light on the challenges OCM faces in its decision-making processes and operational efficiency. #nycannabis #OCM #GovernorHochul #CannabisControlBoard In March 2024, Governor Hochul convened a mul�-agency task force to assess how to improve public engagement and restore trust in OCM. The task force included government leaders from mul�ple State agencies with extensive opera�ons experience and exper�se in organiza�onal redesign for agency success. Over several weeks, the task force conducted interviews with execu�ves at OCM, employees, and external stakeholders, reviewed regula�ons, public guidance, and Cannabis Control Board (CCB) mee�ngs, and designed high level process maps for adult-use retail license applica�ons. This report details current OCM opera�ons and procedures and primarily focuses on improvements of general agency opera�ons and a review of the adult-use retailer licensing process. Key Findings Specifically, the task force found OCM had: Limited depth in administra�on; Failed to centralize licensing opera�ons; Created complex and obscure licensing requirements; Provided sparse customer service; A lack of data and key performance indicators (KPI); And u�lized mul�ple disparate IT systems. These findings have been exemplified through OCM’s o�en confusing decisions regarding agency opera�ons

The average THC/ml serum level of a medical marijuana patient is a crucial consideration for MMJ patients and advocates. What is your serum level? NJ S 2805 suggests establishing a 3ng/ml THC Serum level for DUI charges. Do New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program patients also have to surrender their New Jersey driver's license?
