Conscription is a topic that endures over time. There is no easy way to do it. The considerations of today are comparable to the considerations of earlier centuries.

Section 702 has supplied extraordinary insight into foreign dangers, including military threats, theft of American trade secrets, terrorism, hacking and fentanyl trafficking. In 2022 intelligence from 702 helped the government find and kill the Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri, one of the terrorists responsible for Sept. 11. Almost 60 percent of the articles in the president’s daily intelligence briefing include information from Section 702. Although Section 702 can be used only to target foreigners abroad, it does include Americans when they interact with foreign targets. Not only is such incidental collection inevitable in today’s globalized world; it can be vital to U.S. security. If a terrorist or spy abroad is communicating with someone here, our government must find out why. https://lnkd.in/gzr7hjZm

Great quote: “One “decisive advantage” the U.S. Navy has over China is “the number of allies and partners that we have throughout the globe,” particularly in the Indo-Pacific region, he said. “Where we may have a challenge on quantity, we make that up with assistance from allies and partners in the region,” including Australia, Japan and South Korea.” This is a good situation to be in, and Allies & Partners truly are an advantage the U.S. has over potential adversaries – not to mention a key deliverable for #FAOs. But before we pat ourselves on the back too quickly, a couple of questions, especially relevant when you get past allies like Japan, Australia, and South Korea. If we expect to rely on allies: ▪ Do we share information and intelligence with them? ▪ Do we interoperate with them regularly? Have exercised together at a high level and on relevant scenarios? ▪ Do they see us as a reliable partner? Are we there for them when they need us, or just when we need them? Do they perceive we’re likely to ‘abandon them’ in difficult times? Is that how they perceive our actions in Niger and other places when we’ve had to cut off assistance? ▪ Do we treat them like allies and partners? Or do we treat them like objects we can direct without consultation? ▪ Are we aligned across the whole of the U.S. government, or are we working at cross purposes? Not to mention the dilemma some of our allies and partners will face in the event of war or heightened tensions. ▪ Will they choose sovereignty and security interests when they are balanced against economic interests? ▪ How “deep” is their support of their choices? Is there a gap between what the government wants to do, and what the population will support? If we assume we’re going to rely on allies and partners, are we doing enough now to turn those assumptions into facts? #FAO #NavyFAO #AlliesandPartners https://lnkd.in/gCtzwums

You may have come across job announcements on #USAJOBS like the one below, and had the same question posed recently in the #VFEC: "How does a job advertisement like this work? There's no job description or pay scale. It's just 'send your resume." What you need to know and understand, to have any hope of being hired you still need to submit a tailored 🚨FEDERAL RESUME🚨, that shows how you meet (and surpass) the minimum qualifications for the series and grade you're applying to. Even if those "qualifications" aren't specified in the announcement. That also means those 1 to 2-pager corporate resumes won't cut it, even if you're applying through non-competitive means. In this case, the Internal Revenue Service is looking to non-competitively hire Veterans eligible under a non-competitive hiring authority (e.g., VRA, 30% or more disabled, VA Training Program, etc.). Announcements like this show that the agency has vacancies in dozens (hundreds in this case) of locations, in dozens of job series, and in pay scales that range from GS-5 to 15. But again, how do you tailor to an announcement that has nothing to tailor to? Simple. It's called G.T.S. (Google. That. Stuff). The announcement tells you what job series and professional levels (e.g. GS-5 to 15) the agency is looking for. A simple web search for "0342 - Support Services Specialist" (a series from the announcement below) gave me a link to OPM's, General Schedule Qualification Standards for the series (https://lnkd.in/gXfpAQMu). Many agencies also have careers or jobs pages on their websites that you can get information from (the #IRS can be found at https://lnkd.in/gMG32rG5). You can also go to USAJOBS and search out other announcements using the grades, series, or key words. For instance, using "0342" as a keyword, USAJOBS came back with 22 jobs matching the series (https://lnkd.in/gxSXAy7w), ranging in grades from GS-5 to GS-15. Bottom line, there is PLENTY of information available to use as a foundation to tailor your federal resume to the job series and professional level you're looking for. These announcements are an excellent opportunity to get your federal resume into the hands of hiring managers, but only if you don't send in some "burnt-garbage" and hope for the best.
