The Zoning Ordinance Advisory Committee (ZOAC) is an advisory body appointed by the City Plan Commission and is comprised of 3 Plan Commissioners and 5 citizens. ZOAC is responsible for reviewing potential amendments to the City's Development Code and making a recommendation to the City Plan Commission. The City Plan Commission then considers the proposed amendment and makes a recommendation which is forwarded to City Council.

As established by the City Charter, the City Plan Commission (CPC) is responsible for making recommendations to the City Council regarding planning and zoning matters, and for administering Chapter 212 of the Texas Local Government Code regarding the platting and recording of subdivisions and additions. It is through this planning for and regulation of land development that the City Plan Commission achieves its land use planning objectives.

The BOA is a quasi-judicial body, appointed by Dallas City Council, which hears and takes appropriate action on variations to Development Code regulations on appeal from decisions of the Building Official made in the enforcement of the Development Code and on termination of non-conforming uses.(http://www.dallascityhall.com/development_services/board_of_adjustment.html)

* Founding partner of the Lowest Greenville Avenue Neighborhood Coalition, an East Dallas political organization consisting of six neighborhood associations established to address gross code violations and crime issues facilitated by land owners / business operators of late-night establishments in our area. Via numerous meetings with City of Dallas staff, elected officials, landlords, and business owners/operators, as well as public presentations at City Plan Commission and City Council meetings, we partnered with our two elected City Council members to pass a late night business Special Use Permit requirement and $1.4 million in street “calming” improvements. These two measures are now lowering crime and increasing the quality of adjacent residential neighborhood life.

* Orchestrated VPNA’s 2006/2007 political effort to apply for, and receive, City of Dallas “Conservation District” status, which protects our neighborhood’s architecture styles, land use, and densities, limits structure height, and provides setback guidelines. Show less
