Smart Work Will Transform Our Cities

By Peter J. Miscovich JLL Strategic Consulting - Strategy + Innovation

A city is a rich tapestry of interlocking pieces providing a compelling backdrop for the world of tomorrow.

Whether its arts and culture, science and technology, business and commerce, education and knowledge sharing, health and safety, housing and quality of life – today the city has become the primary growth engine of the 21st Century.

Our cities today provide the global platform for our collective creativity, innovation, connection and collaboration - thus to help create greater global economic prosperity for much of the world’s citizenry.

As we view city through these many different lenses, we begin to define a city's character by its people and how people live, work and play within the emerging urban “ecosystems”.

The future success and performance of our cities may be intricately linked as to how we live, work and play within our global urban environments.

Specifically, we will focus and explore as to how people will engage in “smart work” within our present and future urban environments.

We will focus upon how “smart work” will transform our cities of today and how smart work will transform the cities of tomorrow.

“Smart Work” may be defined as the next generation of innovative work behaviors and practices enabled by the mobile Internet and the convergence of emerging digital “smart” technologies.

How global urban citizens will be able to work more effectively will become a significant growth and economic success factor for the cities of the future.

Smart work will enhance the quality of our daily work experience and smart work will shape the city to become the primary center of creativity, innovation, and collaboration for its diverse citizens.
