📢📢 The FLoating Offshore Wind ReadINess (FLOWIN) Prize in the U.S. has awarded its second phase winners—Principle Power's WindFloat, PelaStar, Technip Energies’ INO15, Stiesdal’s Tetra Triple-One, and Esteyco’s WHEEL. Each winner received $450,000 and a $100,000 voucher for Department of Energy (DOE) lab support. They now advance to the final phase, competing for up to three $900,000 prizes, aiming to develop manufacturing plans for deploying floating wind technologies in the U.S. Principle Power's WindFloat, part of the FloatHOME consortium, stands out with its modular design enabling varied manufacturing strategies. PelaStar, developed by Glosten, is a tension-leg platform noted for its low environmental impact and flexibility in manufacturing and installation. Offshore Update: Equinor, Ørsted Sign New Empire Wind 1, Sunrise Wind Contracts with New York State The weighted average all-in development cost of the two awarded offshore wind projects over the life of the contracts is USD 150.15/MWh (approx. EUR 138/MWh). The 810 MW Empire Wind 1 is already moving towards the construction phase as Equinor received final approval. Ørsted's Sunrise Wind has 924 MW. This value of EUR 138/MWh is higher than EUR 86.45 per MWh, value that the consortium between Belgium-based Elicio and BayWa r.e. has won the AO5 tender in France to develop and operate the country's first floating offshore wind farm, the 250 MW Pennavel project. On the other hand in this fourth solicitation by NYSERDA only european companies have won the tender... US companies are not winning any in their own soil, I mean sea... Restricting turbine operations during periods of high bat activity is the most effective form of mitigation currently available to reduce fatalities. Legal frameworks to prevent or mitigate the negative impacts of wind energy on bats are absent in most countries, especially in emerging markets. Green DC agenda delays CP2 LNG permits as liberals seek votes from the radical progressive wing of party. U.S regulators asked LNG exporter Venture Global LNG to update its emissions analysis for its proposed Calcasieu Pass 2 LNG export project in Louisiana, according to a letter sent on Wednesday. Venture Global is seeking permission from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to double the capacity of its Calcasieu Pass liquefaction plant with a second phase that would produce 20 million tons of LNG per year. The Arlington, Virginia-based company has given other regulators different emissions information on its CP1 project, FERC said, asking for updated emissions data following a complaint from environmental groups. Last month, the Sierra Club told FERC that Venture Global LNG applied to Louisiana's Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) for a modification of its emissions permit to reflect higher levels of atmospheric discharge. The expected increased emissions stemmed from proposed operational changes to that facility’s five combined-cycle combustion turbines, FERC said in its letter. In response, Venture Global said that at the time it applied to FERC for approval to construct the CP2 plant, its application with the LDEQ was pending, and it has not received a greenlight. Venture Global said the application reflected proposed operational changes involving increased hours of operation of the duct burners, but said emissions cumulatively would remain within air quality standards. https://lnkd.in/dj44bR5P

🏋️Heavyweight engineering solutions are building US offshore wind.   Moving six new transition pieces (TP) from Denmark to the US East Coast requires extensive planning and expert execution. 🌟 Friday Feature: Pioneering Solutions for Offshore Wind Transmission 🌟 We are thrilled to spotlight Clarkson University's project funded by NOWRDC, addressing the Solicitation Challenge Area - Electrical and Grid Challenges Unique to Offshore Wind (OSW) Transmission. This project, titled "Atlantic Seaboard Offshore Stability Risk Evaluation & Service" is paving the way for a more reliable and resilient offshore wind energy future. 🔧 Project Highlights: Objective 1: Develop a comprehensive system-wide Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) simulation model, incorporating approximately 30GW of offshore wind and East Coast transmission grids. Objective 2: Create a robust controls stability risk evaluation methodology. This project transcends existing DOE studies by modeling unbalanced and non-fundamental frequency phenomena, and controls stability of inverter-based resources. The resulting simulation capability will form the backbone of a commercial service, empowering OSW customers to assess and mitigate controls stability risks effectively, thereby minimizing delays and cancellations due to reliability issues. 🌊 Why It Matters: Reliability: By addressing controls stability risks prior to project launch, this project ensures a smoother interconnection process for new offshore wind projects. The study follows the US Department of Energy’s (DoE) award to Aker Solutions and Principle Power, which includes a $450,000 cash prize and $100,000 of technical assistance from the DOE National Labs. Entr’s work supports Aker Solutions’ close collaboration with Principle Power to advance the serial manufacturing of WindFloat® foundations. 🤝 Part of DoE’s American-Made Challenges series, FLOWIN is a three-part initiative designed to pave the way for cost-effective, commercial-scale floating offshore wind technologies in the US. With decades of expertise in delivering large and complex structures to the offshore industry since the 1980s, the FLOWIN prize has provided the Entr team with a unique opportunity to explore ways to serialize fabrication, drive further innovation, and reduce the cost of floating offshore wind developments.
