The USCG Auxiliary's four cornerstones - Vessel Examination, Education, Operations and Fellowship - were established and remained the Auxiliary's pillars into the 1990s. Today, the four cornerstones are defined as follows:
    •Member Services
    •Recreational Boating Safety
    •Operations and Marine Safety
    •Fellowship

The well-known Vessel Safety Check, a free examination available to any recreational boater, helps boaters ensure their craft complies with Federal boating regulations.

As for Education, the Auxiliary teaches boating safety to recreational boaters of all ages.

The Auxiliary operates safety and regatta patrols and is an integral part of the Coast Guard Search and Rescue team. Auxiliarists also stand communication watches, assist during mobilization exercises, perform harbor and pollution patrols, provide platforms for unarmed boarding parties and recruit new people for the Service.

Serving more than 4 million youth between the ages of 6 and 20, the BSA is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. These youth represent the foundation of responsible citizenry for the next generation and future boaters. The BSA has a distinct interest in the safety of the individual scout and units. The Boy Scouts want to instill “safety-mindedness” with all scouts and their leaders in whatever activity they are involved in. Likewise, the Auxiliary has the same mission to instill “safety-mindedness” to the public for boating/sailing activity. The Auxiliary’s goal is to advance its boating education to the public to reduce increasing recreational boating fatalities.

As a result of common mission, on April 2, 2009, the Boy Scouts of America and the Coast Guard Auxiliary signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to work together.

American Red Cross Corporate Goals state that Red Cross will be the leading provider of prompt relief to victims of single-family disasters and will increase the number of people and communities served by its response to single-family disasters. The chapter has the first-line responsibility to provide disaster services within its jurisdiction. In order to meet that responsibility, clear lines of authority and accountability must be established with regards to disaster response. On average, the American Red Cross, Illinois Capital Area Chapter responds immediately to more than 100 disasters each year, including house or apartment fires (the majority of disaster responses), floods, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents, explosions and other natural and human-made disasters.

Red Cross Disaster Action Teams (DAT) are organized to place trained Red Cross volunteers at the scene of a disaster to provide immediate, identifiable emergency services to disaster victims and emergency workers. In addition to initiating Red Cross relief actions, the team paves the way for mobilizing other chapter and national sector resources that may be required. The American Red Cross mandate pledges to the community that the American Red Cross will respond with disaster aid 24 hours a day. It is, therefore, each DAT member’s responsibility to help us carry out this mandate.
