“The first thing I noticed about Timmy was his energy. He’s one of those people who really lives in the moment and is almost always trying to make the most of it. His undying appreciation of music, code, art and design make him something of a millennial-era renaissance man. Before he left to study abroad I had the pleasure of having Timmy as a development intern on the web team that I run at New Breed. Whenever he was in over his head he was able to work through the challenge and reach our established goals. Uncharted territory doesn’t scare Timmy. It excites him. I have no doubt that he’ll be a key software engineer at whatever company he lands at after college.”

What do you do if you want to advance your career in Systems Design with high emotional intelligence?
Look to your peers and mentors who you consider to be highly emotional intelligent, and note how they respond to different situations. When you find yourself in a challenging or uncomfortable situation, ask them how they'd handle it! Solicit a reality check every now and then, especially if you feel alone in your opinions or feelings. Recognize that giving honest feedback takes bravery. When you want honest feedback from someone, make sure you know that you want their candid take, reassure them that you are willing to hear them and save them some stress. Generally, frameworks like SBI can be very helpful!

What are the best practices for streamlining front-end development workflows?
- Use a framework. Save time setting up and scaffolding by starting with boilerplate or a template. - Hot reload. See code changes instantly reflected in the presentation. - Test Driven Development. Write tests early and often to keep your iterations focused. - Isolated local development environment. Use Docker or another solution to run your whole stack on your machine. Don't waste time developing and deploying to see how your code performs e2e.

What are some examples of successful feedback cultures in pair programming?
Feedback from a peer you know and look up to is priceless, especially in an ad-hoc format like pair programming. The ah-ha moments come earlier and more often, and pairing can be a great bonding/trust-building exercise. Always ask "how would you go about this?".

As a developer for New Breed marketing I worked closely with our client, Intech Investments to build an interactive dashboard that displays their proprietary data to visually communicate trends in market stress volatility.
This was a fun project!
Built on HubSpot's CMS with jQuery, Javascript and D3.js.
Learn more about it in the video linked below where Intech CEO Dr. Adrian Banner discusses the Monitor on Bloomberg…As a developer for New Breed marketing I worked closely with our client, Intech Investments to build an interactive dashboard that displays their proprietary data to visually communicate trends in market stress volatility.
