Generate:Biomedicines was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering and has received nearly $700 millionin funding, providing the resources to rapidly scale the organization. The Company has offices in Somerville and Andover, Massachusetts with over 275 employees.

The Role:

Generate Biomedicines is looking for an Accounting Manager to join our growing Finance team!  We are a rapidly evolving company and are looking for an individual who is comfortable working o n a team , as well as independently , and will thrive in this fast-paced environment. The Accounting Manager will be an instrumental player in the month end close for Generate and will be responsible for strengthening and automating accounting processes , policies and procedures . Additionally, the role will be assisting with annual audits and enhancing companywide financial reporting. The position provides an opportunity for professional growth as Generate continues to mature and evolve. This position is a hybrid role with a weekly on-site presence in Somerville, MA.

Here's how you will contribute:

  • Work with the business and FP&A to calculate monthly accruals, record journal entries and reconcile accounts. Document assumptions used in accrual models
  • Analyze and provide commentary on balance sheet and income statement variances
  • Prepare and review reconciliations as part of the close process
  • Collaborate across key functional areas, including facilities, legal, HR, IT, R&D, and FP&A, as applicable, to ensure proper input into the accounting close process
  • Develop, implement and document new accounting policies and procedures to scale within the organization
  • Ensure internal controls compliance for the responsible area, including implementing improvements to enhance the efficiency of current controls
  • Play a significant role in annual audits providing supporting documentation for transactions, reconciliation detail and analysis
  • Assist with specific projects and initiatives unique to a fast-growing biotechnology start-up, such as system implementations, updates and business process improvements

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required
  • CPA and “Big 4” audit experience preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting/finance
  • Experience with US GAAP financial reporting requirements and controls
  • Major ERP experience, NetSuite and Coupa experience a strong plus
  • Biotech experience a plus
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team setting
  • Flexible team-player, who is comfortable in a fast-paced growth-oriented environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both scientists and management
